Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Drew's new Fighting Films (red label judo suit) has finally arrived he will be well chuffed as he has been asking since last Wednesday when his new suit is going to be delivered. Already washed and on the line drying as I have the feeling he will want to wear it tonight when he goes to Judo. I think I prefer this one as it's blue in colour so should be easier to keep clean with a bit of luck

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Had an unusual evening.
Whilst eating dinner on the balcony of our rented holiday villa in Souda Bay, Crete, a US hunter-killer sub (looks like Virginia class) sailed across the bay on the way out to the Med, and six US F-16s spent the evening doing 'touch and go' landings/take offs from Chania Airport.
Wonder if they are practicing for something around the Bosporus Straits?

The Phone line is working again after the Virgin guy checked the cabinet and found that the wires were put in the wrong place by another employee.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My mum had been losing too much weight, she swallowed a camera and the Pancreas needs further investigation.
Before we went on holiday she had a camera the other end, they found something but the biopsy they took nothing happened so on Saturday they did the camera again and today she was told its not bowel cancer.
So i have bought some steaks for tea (The pull the horns off, wipes is butt size steak )

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Just put down a deposit on Osem Jnr's first set of wheels - a 14 plate Kia Rio. It's a hell of a lot nicer than my first car and my second and my third...
Got one very happy lad on our hands right now!

Nice to have them home safe and sound. Hope he hasn't acquired too many 'battle scars'...

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Yes it's nice to have him home Osem.
Osem Jnr is one lucky boy, what a first car he must be well chuffed. My first car was a Escort Mrk 2 and I loved it although it was a rust bucket really.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
My first was the most awful Renault 20tl with a dodgy gearbox - the only good things about it were the velour seats which were like armchairs.
He's a top lad and I always promised him that, one day, we'd try to make up for some of the things he's missed out on.

Sounds like he has a top mum and dad as well Osem.
You have brought back a, kind of, happy memory for me.
We helped our son buy his first car and I taught him to drive. All went well until the evening before his test. 7:30pm on an October night he decided to reverse on to our drive, goodness knows why as it was pitch black and not the easiest maneuver in daylight. He caught his wheel arch on the gate hinge and to his credit stopped the car before he tore off the whole panel. We had to round up some neighbours to physically lift his car away from the gate and then spent the next few hours trying to bend his bodywork back into shape. The car was second hand and with a bit of black spray paint we managed to botch up a halfway decent repair.
Next morning we went to the test centre with fingers crossed that the tester wouldn't prejudge his driving skills by the state of his car but all was well and Peter passed his test with no faults.

Tks Jo .
I'm hoping Osem Jnr won't do that but the wife did something very similar after getting her shiny 1 year old Focus some years ago. Despite my advice (which she now follows) just a few days after getting it home she turned into our drive going a little too fast and at too acute an angle which led to her scraping the rear off side of the car against our wall. I felt the impact and immediately gasped in horror telling her she'd just done a whole load of damage to her new car. I was amazed when I got out, went to have a look and couldn't see anything, however. It took a minute or two before I spotted what had happened. Luckily for her, only the rear passenger door handle had scraped the wall. The impact had made a shallow dent in the door skin surrounding it but that sprung out leaving just the scraped colour coded door handle which hardly notices. Phew!!! That was a close shave. Wasn't long afterwards that she finally decided to start reversing into the drive. I'm hoping Jnr. will be more careful.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Good news for a change. I just had an inspection from the council tax people and qualify for. Reduction as a is have a room set aside for my disabilities
Ok so it means I am more of a leech off society as a whole but it saves a little cash a month which is nice.
