Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Can someone tell me the current things a TIVO cannot do that a V+ can? Or any known bugs or annoyances? I need to update my contract and will probably be tied into a year and will end up being moved onto a TIVO I suspect. One of the things I think is correct, is that TIVO you cannot output via scart to RF modulator to send picture to another room? Is that correct?

* Reminders (but not for long)
* Dub to Video/DVD Recorder in the background
* Better "Red Button" (I think. Don't use it myself.)

Very occasional re-boots for no apparent reason is the only major operational annoyance I can think of. There are a few bugs too, but nothing too major and they will be sorted

The lack of record in background I knew of. This is annoying as I used that to send something previously recorded to the TVs upstairs whilst watching something else. I can live without this possibly. Can you still send TV out via the scart at the same time as using the HDMI for the main TV? i.e. real time TV output via both scart and HDMI simultaneously?

Better red button on V+.... explain?
Can I for example use red button on TV to select say a different Wimbledon court when they show 3/4 different courts? In what way is the TIVO one limited?

Thankyou

WIMBLEDON MULTI SCREEN

Have to say not impressed with this service! Firstly is it me or do the streams looks as if they are being shown on 'film'. If anyone has a look do you know what I mean it's difficult to explain but it looks as if its not being shown in the same format as the V+ box or on normal telly.

Secondly the stuttering, slow picture makes it impossible to watch sometimes + every so often if pauses and then speeds up like it's on fast forward.

VERY annoying. I was hoping for a lot and the BBC were bragging how good it was going to be.

Never tried it so don't know. Sorry.

Not sure exactly as I don't use it myself. I'm just not sure whether the Tivo has all the same functionality as the version on the V+. Again, it's not something I use much. I just know there's been comments about lack of it on Tivo.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I think getting a tivo box was the worst decision l have made, Since we had it installed we have had the engineer out four times to fix it, now we have another problem with it, the picture freezes, the engineer last time said we did not have neough power going into it.

Now we tried recording on it over a period of several days, and all the programmes we tried, the recording was all terrible, broken picture and sound.

I tried recording 'lifers' and the picture was bad. Is it the box or the engineers who just want to turn up get paid and irratate the customer.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

The thing is with TIVO, the V+ is now a discontinued product really and when I update my package this week (retentions deal expies) I am clearly going to be put on a new year contract which all the "selections" deals come with TIVO. I don't really want to pay extra per month for TIVO, and if I can keep my 2 x V+ boxes at a discounted rate for not having TVO I might well ask for that. Unlikely they would do that for me though.

Obviously it's the box. You seem to have a duff one. Annoying but it happens. Insist on it being swapped-out for another one.

I'm not certain, of course, but I would assume that, in time, the cost of the box should (might?!) come down a bit as that is exactly what happened to the V+

That said, I'm not 100% sure as it does cost VM for the Tivo system unlike the V+ which was, basically, theirs.

It's pretty obvious that something is wrong with your Tivo and/or the signal to it Arthur. It would be useful (for diagnostic purposes) if you could post the stats from the Tivo so that we can help you. A screen grab would be informative dude

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Here is a run down of what the engineers did, They checked the signal on the first visit and increased it at the box, second engineer said it was the wrong type of cable going into the house, but didn't changed it, third engineer changed the internet box saying it was that that was cuasing the problem, fourth engineer said it was caused by a fault on the cable and that he would increase the signal to full, but it could also be the phone connection. bingo still wrong.

We were having a similar problem on both our TiVo and V+ boxes. We were suffering from picture break up on HD channels, SD channels were fine. We had 5 engineer visits who, to be fair, tried all that they could to get it working. I eventually told customer service that I would be cancelling the TV in January when the contract expires. Not long after we received a call from the network team. Chap turns up a couple of days later, diagnoses it as a faulty amp in the green box. Swapped it out the next day and all has been fine since. Could that be the surge of your problem maybe?

Not sure I follow you Sniper. I'm guessing when your retentions deal runs out then your monthly fee goes up?

AFAIK VM are not forcing TiVo on anyone so you either do nothing and pay what you're paying or phone up for another retentions deal saying you want to keep V+ if they will offer you one again of course.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

I'll be calling when this deal runs out in a couple of months and say I fancy adding Tivo to my account, but don't want to pay the monthly fee for it and see what deal they do for me. All you can do is ask.

Is it just me or are the Spanish getting the exact same as what we have got here?
