The *only* people who need a new bit of equipment are those who use a Pace set-top box (STB) for their broadband - if they want the 2mb or 3mb service, they need to have the Pace STB replaced with a Samsung STB.
All of the standalone cable modems (SACMs) that ntl use (Terayon, Motorola, "ntl:home" badged Ambits, etc) can quite easily handle the new speeds.

Thanks, but this modem is really old..and as i said in the post before, i seem to be DL at at 1mb speed rather than a 2mb, although i have definitely uograded. Even the speed tests tell me Im using 1mb speed.

Only a little slower, plus you have a bigger usage limit (1GB per day, rather than 3GB per month).

750K customers with a black PACE Set top box and want to change to the new 2MB speed, need to arrange with ntl a Set top box swap, this will be a free swap.
Note that those 750K broadband customers with a black PACE Set top box, will receive a FREE automatic upgrade to 1MB if they do not arrange a Set top box swap as the black pace set top boxes are only able to provide the maximum of 1MB speed connection. Also note that there will be no change to the usage allowance (1GB daily).
|
Phone ntl, & check if this will actually happen for you (750k taken up to 1meg, with no change to the "cap") until you get your Samsung.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
I phoned up for my speed upgrade at 2pm, then again at 4pm and still nothing!!! And still can't use the online speed-up site either. Ah well, looks like it'll be another call back in the morning if its not activated tonight.

I bet it's not as old as my 3com CMX (first modem available on ntl )
If you are getting all signs pointing to 1mb, how can you be sure you are on 2mb??
PM me the mac address of the modem and i will check it tonight.

You could try phoning Tech Support instead. They're open until midnight. Or, if you're lucky, one of the ntl employees here will see your post & be able to offer help

Are you sure you've been upgraded? I don't mean simply that you've done the online upgrade, but that you *know* it's actually been done?
After I did the online upgrade, I had to manually reboot my Terayon to get it to pick up the new speed (despite the website saying it would happen automatically).
What speed tests have you tried?

Can the new members stop insulting NTL staff, I'm sick of reading it, no I'm not NTL staff myself, I'm sure those that are, are getting fed up of seeing such comments in this thread.

I'd just like to confirm that monkeybreath does indeed work for ntl, & can be trusted with your info

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Wel, i know its picked up abit of speed. (My preditions are that its gone from 750kb to 1mb) And i have also checked the website that we all used to press upgrade, and it tells me im using 2mb internet. I can definitly tell that theres a slight difference in the speed but its not 2mb. Im downloading most files and the speed test at the 1mb speed, but the odd files at 250+kb. I'm stil not sure if its the box thats slowing my connection down.
Ps. how do you reboot manually the Terayon?
Thanks in advance..

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Can I ask something here, those of us on 300k will have to ring CS to get the new speeds?

Probably, unless they make an online way of doing it.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 3)
Is there any difference between waiting for the upgrade to happen automatically and just going to the tier migration page and doing it yourself?
