Forgive me if it has been mentioned already but if you have firewall such as ZA Pro with a new Samsung STB you will need to re enter your UBR, DNS & DHCP server addresses to the firewall trusted zone as thet have changed.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Got a date of 3 May at the absolute earliest, subject to confirmation by the engineering department before they can deliver a new STB. Haven't even been offered 1MB in the interim, which I can live with, given the bandwidth limitations of the 1MB service.
Still 6 weeks out is a long long time

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Why are the upload caps not in multiples of 128K or even at all proportionate to the download rate?
The old 1mb service had 256K upload, now this will be 100K! Even the new 2mb is only 200K!

Maybe you'd like the old prices to go with them too .

it appears you're attempting to compare the old top tier with the new bottom tier. yes it will have a lower upload speed and that's why it's £20 cheaper!
all the tiers have had their upload speeds increased. although the top tier does have a fairly pants upload speed for the price - not worth paying the extra £13 for in my opinion.

the 1mb service is being marketed as a light service that would in the most part be used for e-mail browsing etc , why should they be in multiples of 128k , to the site btw

Leaving aside the fact that by comparing the old £37.99/month premium tier with the new £17.99/month bottom tier you're comparing apples with cantilever bridges, the uploads *are* proportionate to the downloads.
1024/100=10.24
2048/200=10.24
3072/300=10.24
So the download speed is always 10.24x the upload speed.
128k multiples are irrelevant for bandwidth control purposes, which are measured purely in bitrates, not bytes or any other power of 2. The UBR and CM file will accept any valid number.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Recently came across the forum and read the first few pages on NTL upgrading broadband. It was the first I knew of this and this evening used the link on the NTLWorld page to upgrade to 1M. Very easy and automatic (I use a cable modem via USB).
This thread is huge to wade through to find specific information. Is there any way to find out how much use of the 3G monthly limit I use as the month progresses.
Looking forward to reading the other topics.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Got upgraded today rang up CS very helpful. The first hit didn't work second hit did.
If anyone is having trouble with the auto update not regonising mac address I found clicking on repair network in XP seemed to have fixed the problem fine. Was worth the wait.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
hirfryin, The 3g limit is my only worry, but i read on the ntl site that they don't plan to implement it until the end of the year, by which time they expect to have a monitoing program for us to keep track and some alternatives for people who go over the limit.(by their examples- could be nearly everyone)
Mind you seeing how often they change their mind, the limit could be changed by the time they implement it (I hope) Otherwise they will almost be inviting us to go to AOL!!!

Hopefully they'll drag their knuckles over the hard caps like they take their time over software upgrades! Could be a long time til they do do it!
