Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)

I think someone mentioned in the thread recently that an SMS code is the internal billing code used to determine which tier you're on. So if you get a 'no sms details' perhaps it means it cant locate your existing tier details?

Probably. I've been a cable customer since before the local cableco was bought by NTL, and I've been a broadband customer since it was launched here (before it was mainstream, and before it really needed "registration"). In my dealings with NTL it's pretty clear that their information holdings on me and my account bear very little resemblance to reality (half the time they get my name wrong, for example)!

There is something wrong with your set up you should be getting at least 256K on a set top box .

Use the speed tests

manxman - I can check what tier you're on if you send me either the MAC of the STB or the smartcard number (066xxxxxxxxx). Check with a moderator if you want confirmation that I work at ntl.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)

A couple of weeks ago, we had big problems with our connection dropping every few hours and generally falling over when attempting to do anything. We rang up tech support then, and they apparently created a new account for us, seemingly deleting the old one (as the homepage.ntlworld webspace that came with it has now disappeared). However, I don't seem to have any details at all for the account now - I've tried to upgrade with my old username/pass, but get a "Unable to identify the cable modem MAC (or Ethernet) address. Please reboot your PC and Cable Modem and try again." error.

Just wondering if there's anything I can do to resolve this, MAC address in hand, as I don't have time to call up tech support right now..

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)

I phoned CS yesterday to ask when my Pace 750k STB would be "Automatically Upgraded".I was told that I needed a new STB and was told that the earliest it could be installed was April 12th!!

Is this the "norm" at the moment and what would have happened, if anything, if I hadn't called? Would I have ever been upgraded?

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)

New Samsung fitted half an hour ago, reprovisioned but still getting 750 on robin walker test.

I hadn't spotted the new blue shark remote the engineer left on the side and was trying to change channels with old remote.

You would have been upgraded to 1MBit i beleive as that is the fastest the Pace boxes can safely support. They are producing Mailshots in the near future telling you what you need to do to get the speed upgrades, this more than likely would have told you about the need for an STB upgrade.
