Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Not having to spend £16 on a train ticket to see my Granddad in hospital. He's told people he doesn't want visitors, despite moaning he never gets visited by family. Grumpy old cantankerous sod (apparently where I get it from according to family).
So that is £16 towards an external hard drive instead. Excellent. Need to do something fast, got over 80 GB of videos and pictures sat on my laptop.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Back from Hospital (Nephro), good news is that my levels are bearing up, so back in 6 months instead of 3-4. Got to come off Morphine (MST) - yay ! But the bad news is that I'm now on something called Targinact. So we'll see...

Not bad news at all peanut.
I have taken Targinact 5 mg/2.5 mg in the past but only for short periods and never had any side effects. I hope it works for you.

And my sister will be happy with that as it was terrible when they went on strike last week.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Thanks for the kind comments. I am very pleased with the results. Going back to 6 monthly is really positive.
Thanks Jo for the assurance on the meds, never heard of this one before, but nothing can be worse than the morphine, I'm so glad to get off it even if it is just an alternative.

As you know your new drugs like your previous morphine are still an opiate but the mix of two components should make them less disruptive to your system. I was only on them for short periods, and at the lowest dose ... I think.... but they were very effective in my case. So hopefully you will find them better than straight Morphine.

I couldn't take morphine for more than 2 days in a row before my bowels just completely stops working which for Crohn's is obviously not good. I do get really violent headaches with morphine as well which being slow release you have to just grin and bear it for the duration of the time on it, but more often than not the headaches are far more painful that the pain you're taking the morphine for.
I'll give anything a try, just hoping the GP is okay prescribing it as it's not the cheapest form of pain relief going. Though saying that I can't take laxatives (with morphine) with Crohn's so I don't think they'll have much choice. (Hopefully)

Hopefully your GP will not baulk at the cost. The main selling point of Targinact is the combination of the two elements act as a equaliser to counteract the bunging up effects of opioid painkillers.
Quote:
Constipation is one of the main side effects associated with opioid painkillers such as oxycodone. It occurs because the oxycodone also acts on opioid receptors that are found in the gut, and this slows down the muscular contractions of the intestines.
Naloxone is included in Targinact tablets to counteract this side effect of oxycodone. It works by blocking the action of oxycodone on the opioid receptors in the gut.

Having just read through the above link fingers crossed that you don't get the headaches recurring as before. <hugs>
