I like some of it, but there's no doubt that it's hugely popular.

Much of its general image conveys it's all the same. But similar to Dance Music it has sub genres and crossovers with other genres e.g. bluegrass, which has a folk/blues/jazz vibe to it. Much of the more mainstream stuff now isn't like the mainstream stuff when I was much younger, you could almost say it wasn't Country and was only being labelled as such because of the accent of the singer.
I haven't actually properly seen Keep It Country (the Freeview TVs in the house tend to be locked to PSB channels most of the time), so I hope VM get its new incarnation of Spotlight TV. I'm curious how it has branched out from just Country.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)
Following the decision to bring the HD sub regions to VM (& Sky), STV is to bring more relevant regional content to Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh.
Does VM operate in these areas?
Sky customers have been advised to reset series links, delete any planned recordings for STV and reset them. Is this the same for VM?

I don't watch STV for News (I ultimately get the Dundee region, as it's the nearest STV region to me), but I was under the impression VM had already regionalised in HD and that was why the SD version was replaced on 103 at the start of the year. The VM deal was done for regional version, and was announced, well before the Sky deal was annouced so the implementation was probably before too.
And yes, VM do operate in at least Dundee and Edinburgh, I believe Aberdeen was never cabled by NTL or Telewest so I doubt VM would need to carry that region of STV.

No VM in Aberdeen, but they are in Dundee & Perth (Tayside region), as well as Edinburgh, Glasgow & Ayrshire.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)
I just looked and (as I vaguely remembered) Atlantic Telecom was the cable company for Aberdeen. They went belly up in 2001 and I believe their cable assets weren't bought and are still there, getting increasingly out of date, under the streets of the area. I get the impression they were more of a phone and internet provider than TV in their later years. Maybe someone from the area with a greater knowledge can chip in.

You'd think that VM or their predecessor in Scotland would have bought it cheaply. Even if it needed rewiring, all the ducts, rights of way etc would be in place and it would be cheaper and easier than extending their network to somewhere where cable had never been laid.

I've got a vague recollection (I can't find a source to back this up though) that their network used a very different type of technology. Couple that with the other UK cable companies mounting up debts at the time, and it probably didn't look a sound investment.
I believe one of the new companies laying fibre at the moment is doing so there, so there may be a consolidation opportunity at some point.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2019)
Amazon Prime may be arriving sooner than we thought on Virgin Media, according to this article. However, contrary to the claim that it launches today (the article is dated 2 May), it's not on our boxes yet.
I'd take this with caution as it's the only article I've seen on this to date, so they may have jumped the gun.

I know, which is why I said it could be launching earlier than we thought.
I have not seen any other reports that it is launching imminently, so I don't know where this reporter acquired the information.
Maybe it is just fake news!
