Re: [Merged] ntl Email-Planned Maintenance.
Since Monday I am unable to get to webmail working (well got in twice) from work - Keep getting "Session Invalid".....
I used to get that when we were using a Foreign proxy - as soon as we switched to a proxy server in the UK it was fine - NOW - nothing works...........
Sometimes I get the navigation (folders) frame up and the main window "Invalid Session" other times both frames show "Invalid Session"......
Whats happening???????????????

Re: [Merged] ntl Email-Planned Maintenance.
It seems with everyone having email trouble over the last few days no body has mentioned this mail from NTL, which I received in my Inbox today!!!
"
Dear Customer
We are about to upgrade and improve our email system. This is a major project and will take several weeks to complete. When we have finished, we hope that you'll notice an improvement to the performance and reliability of email.
In order to let us carry out this important work, we will need to stop the email service for short periods of time. We will do this as few times as possible and only during times of lowest use.
Over the next 4 weeks, the email service will not be available on Monday night from 11pm until 7am on Tuesday morning. This will start on Monday 16th February.
During these times, you will be unable to send or receive email from your 'customer@ntlworld.com' account. All incoming email received during this period will be delivered to your mailbox after 7am on Tuesday morning. All outgoing email created during this period will be sent when you next log-on to your ntlworld email service after 7am.
To keep you up to date on the progress of these improvements to the mail service please visit www.ntlworld.com.
In the meantime, we're sorry for the inconvenience and look forward to supplying you with
an improved service once this work is completed.
Yours sincerely,
The ntl Home Internet Team"

Yup, I got this today as well. To be honest, I've not really had any e-mail problems, he said, really asking for trouble!
Where you at Zacpac? I'm in Glasgow. Has anyone else received this e-mail?

Re: [Merged] ntl Email-Planned Maintenance.
This is more of a question about the e-mail service. I keep getting asked for my username and password. I keep giving the both but it keeps asking and won`t let me in. Is the format for the username fred.smith@pop.ntlworld.com or fred.smith@ntlworld.com? Thanks in anticipation of someone putting me out of my misery.
Ian.

Re: [Merged] ntl Email-Planned Maintenance.
In the example given it would be fred.smith@ntlworld.com as the main account but the user name would be just the fred.smith part unlike hotmail where the user name is the full email address.
The problem you are having though is not that the user name and password are incorrect it is that the system, for one reason or another, is not confirming that they are correct which is not the same thing at all. (This assumes that the same details have worked previously and are therefore correct though)
That said what a few have found is that deleting the account in Outlook/Outlook Express and then re-adding it can help.
Others have found changing the pop and smtp address to the IP equivalent to bypass the DNS servers has also cured the problem.
However, if the problem is that a server carrying your details is currently not available for any reason, then none of the above will help until a server carrying your account details is back on line.
Hope that helps.

Reminder:-
Quote:
ntl Home - All Packages - E-Mail Service
1 March 2004 15:47
The ntlworld email service will be unavailable to all customers between 2300 on Monday 1st March and 0700 on Tuesday 2nd March.
This is to allow work to upgrade the email servers to improve the performance of the email service.
This outage will affect all ntlworld email users, including dial up, broadband and Freedom customers.
During this time, ntlworld customers will be unable to send or receive emails, either from using Outlook Express or using the webmail service on ntlworld.com.
Any emails sent to your account during this time will be available to you once the email servers are available on Tuesday morning from 0700am.
Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this work may cause.
