Re: Internet down
Not had any issues here, I did get an email saying VM email would be down for maintenance though, but it must be working since I got my VM bill forwarded to a 'proper email account that doesn't go tits up'.
I now have no reason to ever login to VMs Mickey Mouse email service ever again.

I think thats a little unfair. I have had NTL/VM email for around 23 years, this is the first issue I can remember for many many years, much like my BB service.

Two of our seven household VM accounts have the same problem. Judging by the number of complaints over on the VM community forum the group isn't quite as small as VM would have us believe.

Re: Internet down
This week I have had 2 emails one about an @ntlworld email account and one about an @virginmedia account.
Many years ago I phoned to get help because I was no longer getting any emails to,or from, the above mentioned @NTL account and was informed that the account had never existed. The agent did 'help' me set up a @Virginmedia account which worked for a while then that stopped as well.
I tried to sort it out yet again but as I have an adversion to being treated as an idiot I ended up inserting my google email into my account and have ever since got my bills with depressing regularity.

Re: Internet down
Update yesterday ;
Quote:
Hello,
Further to my update earlier in the week, I wanted to let you know that our teams are still working to fully restore your historic emails. Unfortunately, confirming a specific resolution date is taking longer than expected, but we will be in touch again early next week to provide further information and a timeframe.
I'd like to apologise again for this disruption.
Kind regards,
Axel Wehrle

Re: Internet down
A cynic might think they're not throwing the kitchen sink at the problem. New customers apparently are no longer offered email facilities and there is talk of them discontinuing the service completely in a year or two. Email it seems is right at the bottom of their priorities and they have some disclaimers buried in their T's and C's basically saying you should back up your emails as we (VM) are not responsible for their safety. I think the people talking about compensation for lost important correspondence might be in for a shock.

A cynic might think they pay enough each month for a reliable BB, a decent email service and a kitchen sink ! Longstanding customers are VMs most profitable. With fibre speeds now competitive they need to up their game, and not lower service/standards. VM used to be reliable for BB, they are now increasingly flaky. Reliability beats, silly headline speeds, that no one actually needs.

Agreed. I just wish City Fibre would show up but there's little chance any time soon with Openreach and VM already having their feet in the door.

Re: Internet down
The email service is slower than a slow thing this morning. It times out trying to connect, until finally it does connnect, but clicking on an email opens blanks pages.

I recommend migrating to another service.

it's broken big time. Personally I'm not touching it until there is word that they have sorted it out, assuming they ever do. Also see SnoopZ advice, there are loads of other email providers not tied to a particular ISP.

Re: Internet down
I stopped using it years ago, its forwarded to my own system, I get probably a couple per week, nothing I'd miss.
Sadly, my other half still uses it atm, although shes been told she may have to move if we drop VM - thats still a possibility, depending on what they offer me.

Re: Internet down
I use GMail and pull my VM emails to that.
