I went to search for something that was mentioned on FB as being in the Chad desert. It's a memorial site to a bombed passenger plane.I tried to find it using Google earth.I just could not find it until I got the actual direct image posted on line..and that reminded me that this planet is a whole lot bigger than we ever truly realise it to be because we as individuals travel so little of it.
The area they have been searching is at least the size of the Sahara and it must be truly hard to actually search through the satellite pictures getting close enough to see the images which will be miniscule in comparison to a whole sea,a whole planet.Give them the kudos for at least finding what is effectively a needle in a whole pile of haystacks.

No. The pieces of interest have been pictured close to where they always expected the plane to be, thats what CNN have said so thats nearly 3 days of looking in a 'small area' not the entire Gulf of Thailand or any other sea.

No kudos, it isn't it and should never have been released, apparently

If nothing else it seems like a guide in how not to handle things, is there one professional handling this in Malaysia

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
It reminds me of the crash the golfer Payne Stewart was in.
http://www.golftoday.co.uk/news/year.../stewart1.html
His private jet depressurised, everybody was knocked out and the plane kept flying until it ran of fuel.
If something like this happened the plane could have crashed anywhere.
Only thing is that it doesn't explain why the transponder and ACAR stopped sending out signals

Could something have depressurised the plane and knocked out the electrical supply at the same time? Would the transponder or ACAR have automatic backup power if this happened?

I don't know.
But if it did continue to fly on autopilot, it could have ended up coming down in a remote part of Russia.
It's clearly evident that it didn't crash on course at the point contact was lost.
So that means it either changed course, or continued flying on course.
So you have questions, if it continued flying on course how far did it fly? You should be able work that out by how much fuel was on board. That would then give you a potential search area.
If the plane altered course, it could be anywhere, but again if you know how much fuel it had on board you would have a radius in which to look, provided it didn't ditch early.
I think this will run and run, but more resources need to be thrown at and more countries need to get involved.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
Guy on the news reckons it almost certainly points to some kind of foul play.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
I think this may go down in history as one of the greatest mysteries.
I think there's very real possibility it may never be found.
Even if floating wreckage or debris is found, even by now it could hundreds of miles from where it hit the water - If it hit the water.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
Would the Americans, with all their top secret satellite technology, sea bed listening networks etc. etc., necessarily come clean about where this plane is if they knew it? Maybe they know where it is and want to keep that knowledge under wraps so as not to reveal their capabilities...
