I think this is a crazy idea. By putting it on Twitter, they will lose a large proportion of their potential older audience.

We don't know what's happening with it , Twitter was just an example. It could quite as easy be a social media network and a terrestrial channel we just don't know.

I know, but if they put this exclusively on Twitter, Facebook and the like, they will lose audience share. Many older people see these social media sites as self indulgent, trivialising and a threat to their privacy.
I am sure there will be a slide towards this sort of idea in the future, but those sites have to do a lot more to win over those who choose not to belong to the digital social community to maximise the opportunities.

And there are just as many older people who like them as well.

Maybe not 'just as many', but certainly I would not put the whole of that generation into the same bracket! But if golf was put exclusively on Twitter, the organisers would suffer a much reduced income compared with if they chose a more acceptable means of carriage.

My take on this is that the PGA told SKY you can have the broadcast rights but the PGA will also be showing it for free on Social Media. PGA seem to want it across all platforms including TV and social media.
I guess with those terms SKY probably thought it was not worth it as it won't drive subs. You never know first two rounds might end up on BBC now.

I agree Rich that was my thinking also , I suppose if it it all ends up on the BBC it's a win win for Golf fans. It also poses the question will other overseas Sports consider doing the same.

Together, the TV and digital deals for the US PGA tournament are expected to recoup up to $10m, similar to what Sky had paid for past tournaments.

Certainly makes sense if true , appeals to the younger generation and available free on TV a win win really and recouping the same money.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
BT TV customers unhappy with new Sky Sports pricing
"BT has confirmed that customers will have to pay £27.50 per month for the Standard Definition version of Sky Sports Main Event and £33.50 for the High Definition version.
In comparison, the same £27.50pm would get customers all 10 of the new channels on Sky’s own platform."
