It stands for Signal to Noise Ratio - the more signal & the less noise, the better.
Ultimately it affects speed as the modem keeps having to ask for information to be sent again if there is too much noise on the line for the signal to be 'understood' properly.

Can I ask which operating system you use?

The case for the defence:
At the time I was commenting on a post by Moldova referring to customers who had upgraded from 2Mb/s to 20Mb/s. In those circumstances they would have had to have ordered their upgrades.

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
I'm in the Cardiff area and according to Virgin it's already upgraded. I applied for the upgrade over 3 weeks ago and am still on 2MB. I've rebooted the modem on several occasions but without success.
Should it take this long once you apply for it?

Hi Tony, Sorry to hear that, I was told the whole of GU area by 1st June when I called VM a few weeks back, then I got my upgrade a day after the call to Virgin! Maybe I was just lucky as others near to me have also not received the upgrade yet. It does seem silly, because you can't be more than a mile or two from my location. Anyway I hope you get it soon.
