Re: Football : Season 2007/2008
It could be valid if it was complete. He didn't just inherit a good team, he inherited a good team which bought at very high cost in a short space of time.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, as long as it's acknowledge that their success owes more to the Russian's billions than a team manager.

Who have they played of any note since the United game?

So will their supporters now finally admit their success was down to Roman's billions and not Mourinho's abilities?

Yep because they won a lot of trophies under Ranieri didn't they and IIRC thats when the biggest outlay happened, fact is if it were all down to cash Roman would manage them himself and not bother with a manager

A 16 game unbeaten run is impressive regardless.

That's a bit of a contradiction really (read it again) - all teams need a manager anyway.

Is it? Unless you are nit picking, I'd say anyone with an iota of sense could grasp the point I was making. Besides it wouldn't be the first time a chairman has thought he could do a better job, anyone remember Ron Noades flirtations with management at Palace and Brentford?

Re: Football : Season 2007/2008
Comparing the abilities of players from Brentford and Palace to those of Chelsea really isn't going to your argument much good. The egos and expectations of £20m+ rated players dictate that a quality manager is essential.

There isn't an argument, Ranieri won nothing, Jose did, despite spending similar amounts, money can only help a manager, you can't buy trophies or success, otherwise Newcastle wouldn't have been potless for so long and Arsenal wouldn't have won things, considering they make a profit every year all but in the transfer market

The clear argument which you seem unable to grasp is the team Roman bought with Ranieri in charge were still bedding in.

Except they weren't, as the core of his team were already there, Terry, Lampard, Cuddachini, Gudjohnson, Desailly and Gallas etc in fact imo the only players who brought anything to the team were Joe Cole, Duff and Makelele, I am sure they don't want reminding of Crespo, Veron and Mutu etc

The core of the team might have been there, but they hadn't yet gelled in to the success that they became! Is it really that hard for you to see?

Yawn why don't you just stick to supporting your own team instead of criticising everyone elses, Jose is one of the best he proved it at Porto, he proved it at Chelsea and he continue proving it where ever he ends up next whether he has cash to spend or not and btw Fergie has spent more than anyone over the last 10 years, you don't see people demanding Utd fans admit his success is down to cash do you? Oh and if anyone could do it why sack Ranieri in the first place?

Erm I don't criticise everyone else's teams, just yours as well as Arsenal and usually Liverpool. Jose proved nothing at Chelsea other than with a large chequebook he could bring expensive players to the team. I'm not saying he's a rubbish manager, far from it. But the success of the team was more down to money than his skills.
Yeah SAF has spent a lot but his success came over a lot longer. He has never bought instant success. I don't suppose you noticed that Chelsea's transition from also-rans to being considered one of the 'top 4' began when Roman took over?

Look what happened when the transfer policy was taken from his hands, in came Shevchenko and Ballack, out went Gallas, so much for money!

You don't buy success Russ, if you could Arsenal would be in the Championship not the top of the premiership, money only helps you if buy the right players, if it were about spending money Leeds, Spurs and Newcastle would have a cabinet full of trophies and have you considered the squad Chelsea had before Roman took over, they'd have probably challanged anyway
