Re: 50Mb areas

Ooo more Motorolas, seems that a lot of those being done now are being done with Motorolas.

*Points to Southampton, Mortlake, Wardley, Leeds, Derby, etc.

I have no idea if they are better. You can tell by the traceroutes and DNS people are mentioning, including yourself. The names you mentioned for Wardley only show on Motorolas. Purely noteworthy as VM have pretty much only ever used Cisco beyond a brief trial of Juniper kit and trial of Arris gear. This is the first time that non-Cisco CMTS have been used as long term production equipment.

Re: 50Mb areas

You mean
sotn-cmts-08-lback-20.network.virginmedia.net
and
sotn-cmts-09-lback-20.network.virginmedia.net
?
They are just DNS records atm. (and shouldn't there be 2 more?).

They are just DNS records atm. (and shouldn't there be 2 more?).
They are DNS records because the units are live on the network. DNS doesn't go in for interfaces on boxes until the boxes are live.

Why should there be 2 more? Does Southampton need 4 BSRs to replace its' 7 VXRs?

Anyway there they are, waiting for the RF work to be done!

8 97 ms 29 ms 14 ms sotn-cmts-08.network.virginmedia.net [82.7.203.223]

9 139 ms 37 ms 17 ms sotn-cmts-09.network.virginmedia.net [82.7.203.224]

EDIT: BTW the lbacks are either cable or virtual interfaces, they'll be default gateways for the customers in those subnets, there's an lback-10 on each as well.

Re: 50Mb areas

I don't know if it's any help (doubtful) but for some reason there've been engineer vans running between cabs around here for the past few days.

Looking at the product literature, it looks like the BSRs are considerably newer kit. (either that or they are better at rewriting their lit).

The 10k has been around a while in a few incarnations but the 10k that VM have now bears little resemblance to the original one, new PRE, new line cards compared with the original 10k release all those years back.

I actually remember working on the 10k when it was brand new, was a beast compared with the VXRs.

Re: 50Mb areas

Well, given the problems people have been reporting, and the different kit in some of the areas that are in the process, maybe being near the end of the rollout is a good thing.
