The aims of Cable Forum are simply to build on the success of nthellworld and: - To allow cable customers in the UK to voice open and honest opinions of ntl and Telewest services.
- To facilitate discussion between staff and customers of both cable companies.
- To provide help and support to those who need it and who ask on the website.

If I thought before I joined here that this was just an extension of NTheL world I would not have signed up. I have no problems with NTL (not just creeping) I have a fast connection 750kb and am now waiting for a FREE upgrade to more than double the speed to 2mb I can't remember having any trouble except for what turned out to be scheduled work which I never looked for on their website (my fault). my upgrade to a Samsung STB will not be done until April 6th and i don't know when i'll get the connection sorted. To all of you who are so desperate why not just sign to another company for a 2mb connection and pay their prices....oh and see how long that takes to set up and that will be for an individual not thousands or millions whatever the case at NTL.

I agree with what you're saying, however the site historically was called nthellworld so people will, legitimately, often have a go at the company where they feel it's justified, which is fine.
Sometimes I agree with them. However if I don't agree, I always like to say so.

Well I think Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢ll make this my last post, on this subject, hooray I here you say, as I donââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t want to upset the NTL staff on here anymore. All I want to say is, †˜I hope NTL have learnt that communication and good customer service are paramount to a successful company. And next time they do an exercise like this theyââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ll make every effort to include the customer rather than leaving them on the outside wondering what the hell is going on! Thank you.
P.S I look forward to other debates.

In what way are you 'left wondering what the hell is going on'?
You are due an upgrade shortly. You will receive a letter explaining this, and also explaining what is going on. In what way is that 'not communicating with customers'?
I can assure if there's ever another speed upgrade they'll do it exactly the same, they cater for the majority of customers, not a select few who want a telegram from the Queen every time there's a change to their service.
Hopefully if you're leaving this debate you'll join the real world at the same time.

Hi, but wouldnââ‚Ã⠀šÃ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t it have been wiser and more sensible to have sent the letters out before the upgrade started, then NTL customers wouldnââ‚Ã⠀šÃ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t be phoning and wondering whatââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s going on. It seems like closing the gate after the horse has bolted. And yes Iâ₠¬ÃƒÆ’¢â€žÂ¢m about to join the real world and go for good 50-mile cycle ride.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Nope. Because they cant upgrade every area at once, and is sensible to avoid the confusion to wait until all/most areas can receive this upgrade, send a letter out explaining the upgrade and dates for the roll out and then do it.

Why should I pay the same when theyââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢re receiving twice the speed than myself through no fault of my own?
|
So when you go on holiday, you check every other passenger's ticket to make sure they paid exactly the same as you? And then bang on the cockpit door to complain if anyone got theirs cheaper?
And if you buy a coat in the sales, do you insist on paying full price on the basis that the person who bought the same coat in the same shop yesterday shouldn't have to pay more than you?
Stop getting so het up about what other people are getting for their money: think about what you're getting for your money. Is it the deal you agreed to when you signed up (yes - you signed up for 750Kb and that's what you're getting)? You can have a whole extra 33% speed increase for nothing now while you wait for an upgraded STB/SACM (if I understand the position correctly) then shortly you'll get an additional 133% speed increase, again for nothing.
So a few people don't have to wait for the 'shortly' bit and get it all now? Instead of throwing a strop, just think how lucky they are & what you'll do with all those luvverly kilobits when you get them
Having said that, I'm one of those who didn't have to wait for the 'shortly' bit, so I suppose my judgement could be a bit skewed - you'll just have to feel jealous of me for a bit - I'm intelligent, witty, & good looking too, if you really want something to be envious about
Just chill - good things'll come to you eventually !

Spot on post!
In fact, having worked in retail, some people DO do what you describe, believe it or not.
The thing is, if some people hadn't simply hurled abuse, one of the people on here in a position to help might have offered to do so. A SACM could have arranged in a short period of time, for example.
But no one offers to help those who throw tantrums, it's human nature.

In an ideal world, yes. The harsh reality is, ntl didn't know 100% that the upgrades would be given the ok nationally until early morning on March 8th due to provisioning and billing testing.....therefore if the letters had gone out sooner and the upgrade got postponed for any reason, even if only for a few days, there'd have been uproar.
The company has been bitten in the past (free dialup anyone?) by promising things before they've definitely happened. They have learned their lesson, so now it's 'definite information only'.
I can guarantee that this upgrade has been handled competently and professionally at all levels. On the morning it went ahead, it dawned on me that this was probably the most successful, well-handled project the company has ever done. It was delivered on time and with hardly any issues. It actually took me quite a while to come to terms with that fact!

NTL Upgrade
I have been very pleased with CS at NTL in the efficiency at which they upgraded me from STB to CM within a short space of time so that I could take advantage of the full 2Mb speed on offer. There was no discussion or debate, just "no problems, when can we call".
Unfortunatley, this is where my troubles began!
I cannot get the CM to work. I have spend hours on the 'phone to various people at CS (some located in India) who have come up with many solutions. None of which works.
The problem is that I cannot get the CS to work. I keep getting an IP address of 169. Someone in India suggested that I contact Microsoft as there is a known problem with SP2. Microsoft ran through various diagnostics but no solution. Still no joy. I have tried using 3 different computers now. Running XP Pro, XP Media Edition, and good old Win98. Still no joy. India told told me that the account had not been provisioned - how can I provision the account when I cannot get a connection!
Anybody got any ideas?

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
In respect of the upgrade have been offered a way of jumping the queue.
But to be honest i would rather find out how long it actually takes NTL to auto upgrade these packages.
Taking that into account shall wait till they get round to it and post back when it happens.
Which in my opinion is what this site is about making sure that NTL keep there promises to customers.
Taking into account i have a samsung box you would have thought it would be one of the early ones.
But will keep you updated rebotting every day to check.
Th'eng
It will also see how long customers that do not visit cable forum have to wait

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Since I was getting impatient for 'automatic' upgrade I have just upgraded via NTL website from 750k to 2meg without any major problem. The one problem I did have was trying to find my original username and password from some 4 years ago which, for some reason was required, despite my MAC address being interrogated and then displayed. I eventually found it writen on my CD from those far off days. I have a Surfboard CM 4100 which has always worked fine.
Just checked with Dan Elwell's Speed test and getting 1927Kb/s Download and 207Kb/s upload. Well chuffed since it has cost me no more.
By the way , I am located in Hitchin, Herts.

Good luck to ya. I waited two years for them to fix the sound bug before changing to a samsung box the other week. They had to swap it as the pace one had a 'bug' in the software and is deemed as 'faulty'. shame it coincided with the 2mb upgrade as well. only took four phone calls to the window lickers at cs to get it switched on.
