And don't forget this negative aspect of the update:
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...tc/td-p/979929
Doesn't affect me, because I don't use external devices to control Tivo, but it seems to be a very bad move on VM's part, as they haven't given a full explanation as to why and are thus annoying quite a few very vocal customers.

I believe it's a side affect of the stability update, rather than a deliberate attempt to block them.

Not seen it on any other 1TB yet. You are probably in the first area to get done.

If this is the case, then VM really should go on the forums to explain this.
The VM Tivo forums are a whingers hang out at the best of times; this has just added more fuel for them. Why don't VM take the time to explain that it is an unavoidable (?) side affect?

This is what Mark Wilkin posted: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/.../981697#M41867

Hi I just wanted to confirm that we're piloting a small new code release for TiVo in a small number of areas at the moment.
In addition to a number of fixes after this software release a number of unsupported apps will cease to work as these apps create stability risks to our TV platform.
We know you're interested in using this sort of companion app so we're hard a work adding adding new features to our forthcoming TiVo Buddy app which we'll be launching later this year.
Thanks

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
How reliable are TiVo boxes? My relative is thinking of switching to the VIP50 package, and it says on the Virgin website it comes with a TiVo box.
Heard loads of horror stories, but then you always see the negative stuff and hardly anything about the good side of things. I am looking for a sort of pros and cons argument really for the TiVo box for my relative.
Thanks in advance.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2
After having TiVo for just over a month now (overall very delighted) I have noticed a couple of odd things in the last couple of weeks
1. Couple of times now when clicking on my shows there is a delay with a black screen, when it gets to my shows the current live TV channel window is now left blank. The only way to get this window back is to reboot the TiVo box, is this a known bug?
2. The other night I recorded a film in the early hours of the morning, it split it into 2 partial movies and created a folder for it in my shows, odd
Anyone that can answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

1. press the SLOW button to toggle mini tv on/off
2. sounds like the recording interrrupted for some reason, like a reboot?

I have the same problem in bold and if you toggle the mini tv on & off in settings that seems to solve it temporarily.

Have you got a clear line of sight from the remote to the TiVo box? I wonder if your remote is accidently sending the SLOW command to your box?

There have been some VOD capacity upgrades in the Luton area this week that required all STBs to be rebooted. I know it's a pain, but no pain no gain
Also being discussed here
