Is BB a utility?? If so then i guess you would class telephone as utility and therefore your free minutes may have increased at some point in the past?

You appear to have a 20Mb upload speed with that 735 kbps so if you are are 10Mb thats odd?

I'm also in Gosport and still on 4Mb.

Status page still shows 'TBC' for Cosham UBR (inc. Fareham, Gosport, etc).

Does this mean that I should have been upgraded now, or is NG9 part of an area which is not classed as Nottingham?
UPDATE: Following an email to VM last week, they replied to say that my modem needed upgrading. They scheduled an engineer to come out on Monday 12th May - which he did. The problem apparently is the modem - I had an Ambit ntl:Home 120, but this has now been replaced FOC with a modem which can deliver the increased speeds.

And I'm now upgraded to 10Mb!

Last night at peak time around 8pm I was getting downloads of c 8500Kb/s. Pretty damn good I'd say. The engineer said he was replacing quite a lot of these modems every day.

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Thanks for that, but I dont think it is my modem as i used to be on the 20mb/s package and received full speed, like i said before. NG5 has alot of students and a big university, any guesses why its not upgraded yet

Strange logic.
To clarify a little (well maybe) I personally have what I consider a below average deal with VM for 4Mb and, hopefully, I'll have an above average deal when I get 10Mb - I'll still be paying them even if it is the same price, so where is the free bit? If VM instead of raising the speed they had dropped the price for 4Mb where would the free bit be in that deal? VM really don't have any choice in upgrading - it's the nature of their business.

Just a thought, if the price had increased in line with access speed then for 10 Mb I'd be paying nearly 700 times the price I paid when I first access the net It's a good job the network speed/price system doesn't work that way rather more exponentially (Moore's Law, Butter's Law).

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

And guess what ..... now the speed has dropped back to around 3835kbps. I just cannot understand what the hell is going on. New modem installed Monday 12th May - initially got a faster speed, then back to the same old speed as before.

Did several speed tests this morning at 9:10am - not exactly a peak time, and they all average about 3800kbps, with one exception of up to 6011kbps.

Any ideas on what is going on - other than the typically poor service we seem to get from VM.

Many web speed testers are inaccurate -- try downloading multiple files at the same time? (There's a fuller explanation and lots more useful information on Annie's Broadband FAQ.)

Unusual economic methodology - you/we/one agreed a price when you/we/one took up the service (even if you consider it a "below average deal"), you/we/one are getting a 150% download speed increase, and you don't see what you are getting for free - we will have to agree to disagree on this one, methinks.
