Broadcasters may win higher EPG slots for more public service content
Quote:
The government's forthcoming communications green paper will suggest broadcasters could be rewarded with a higher slot on digital TV electronic programme guides if they commit to transmitting more public service programmes such as news and children's shows.

Forgive my ignorance but what exactly do you mean by `putting their DOG in the 4:3 safe area`?

Media Boy update:
No new news to give you today.
But sometime the Sky EPG says ''No longer broadcasting'' on channels on the first of an new month.
I have been looking that the Sky EPG on my old Sky+ box and I can confirm that Diva TV and Current TV are both still broadcasting on the 1st of February.
PS: I will update both my Virgin and Freeview lists next Wednesday.

The DOG is the on-screen channel logo. When it's in the 4:3 safe area it's not right at the edge of the screen on a widescreen TV as it's placed in a position where it's still visible on an old-fashioned non-widescreen TV.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
To be honest, the History Channel seems to have dumbed down quite considerably in recent years, and rarely watch it now. Likewise Bio.
I am not particularly bothered about not seeing shows like 'Pawn Stars' and 'Ice Road Truckers' in glorious HD....

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
Will we be getting a Adult Swim channel in the UK, if not can Virgin get TCM 2 (which shows Adult Swim programmes in the UK) or maybe Time Warner may rename TCM 2 to Adult Swim?

And of course it would not be VM paying i am sure customers would notice an uplift in their monthly bills.!
Its well known that if a company say sky do not want to sell channels to another provider they just ask for a unrelaistic price simples.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2012) Vol. 1
What l think the major problem with new channels coming to VM, is that customers won't pay extra for these channels and they openly admit on this forum.
When prices go up, sometimes about 50p, l don't mind paying extra money for example if we get 5/10 new channels then obviously, we will get charged for this.
IF it comes to pay channels ie Premier Sports, l would not pay for this on its own, if it came as part of a package, then that would change.
