I really need to get back in to exercise. Thinking of doing the couch to 5K.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Anybody suffered from lower back pain while walking long distance?

I saw a physiotherapist that told me it's conditioning. My doctor prior to referral said it was conditioning.

I never had this issue when I was considerably lighter in weight. I did have shin splints though.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

How's your bike riding going? I'm thinking of getting a bike. Does it contribute loads to your weight loss quest?

yeah I have got me a pukka road bike now really draws the effort. This week I have done 35 25 and 27 mile ride outs each around 2 hours . I estimate in that time I am burning over 1500 extra calories at least per ride. I am at the point now I can push myself to top end of vigorous around 150 beats per min with totally calm breathing . Peak above 160 I still breath relaxed for the most part. Only the big hills get me heavy haha

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

I'm looking at cross country bikes. I think I've found a gem for a couple hundred pound that needs some work done to it, still not sealed the deal so hopeful at this point otherwise it's going to be grueling looking for another. I missed out on a £1k bike that was effectively on my doorstep. May be for good reason this new one is a real winner I think.

I plan on riding while it's quiet, not so busy times. With this extra weight I feel an in balance rather than being nimble but hopefully the weight goes quickly.

Am I right in believing sweating it out is the best form of dropping weight?

Have you considered changing your diet

Yes but that alone isn't motivating. I'll enjoy the bike which will impact my outlook on life that pushes me to eat more healthy. I went to see a dietician. She said eat half plate veg and give up all those naughty treats like palm oil.

My tummy feels as though it's stretched. That's my main problem. I can consume 2 plates of the same dinner.

Build up the time and distance. For me it was all about endurance build that up the longer you can ride keeping your heart rate up the more calories you burn. I was losing 5lb a week plus at say 17 stone (estimate) eating 1500 to 1800 calories and cycling 2 hours a day. I know the time you have will differ to what time I had but the principle stands far and slow will burn more than short and fast

High veg content does still fill you up though and your stomach will shrink . You have to bare the rough start though it does get better quite quick in my experience. Cutting carbs and switching to protein and animal fats satiates the appetite too . You want to cut out all oil except olive if you can its garbage

Pre 2016 I got myself repeating 5k on a treadmill in the gym. Breathing made me feel a different person. I get what you mean by controlling yourself. Amazing that.

Not wanting to sound pedantic, but the weight you lose is lost through breathing it out rather than sweating.

Never ever listen to "eat less move more" bullshit, it's more complex than that. If anything, it would be both eat and move smarter.

If you're exercising, you're going to be placing more demands on your body, which will lead to increased hunger. But listen to your body and learn the signs of when you're full. No matter how healthy a meal is, if you eat when you're body isn't needing to be fuelled (ie hunger) then your body will store it, exactly what you don't need. Paul McKenna's book "I can make you thin) goes into great detail about this and is cheap on Amazon.

Never forget the ability to use weight to lose weight. Yep I'm biased towards using the gym but lifting low-to-moderate weight with reps of 50 is an excellent way of getting in cardio whilst strengthening the muscles you'll be using whilst cycling.

Good luck.

My weight training is fast light high rep low rest. Have to do it at home now though cuz all the gyms round my way are full of youths hogging machines doing nothing but 8 reps and 10 minutes facebook. Annoys the hell out of me as I know it does you too I am sure

My logic on high cardio duration is mainly it focuses me away from my daily anxieties. You have to focus or you get hit by a car hahaa

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

Spot on with the weights. High reps/low weight is the way for cardio and fatburn

The opposite is my thing. Which is why I squeak and.ache like the Tin Man each morning..

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?

I got my bike a medium marin wolf ridge 6.9 140 xc. It needs a service and other than my fat belly getting in the way mounting and dismounting the bike all is well. I'm not sure when to get going now. The bike is medium but does seem a little large although it is lightweight. I'm thinking don't put dates on it like I didn't with smoking, just go cold turkey is the way to go. Why do I need reminding that I was carrying round another me. Just get rid.
