Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Results for the 10meg service.
This shows how much a proxy can reduce the speed test results, and also it can depend on which browser you use as you will see by my final test, wow, look at that speed for the 10 meg package.
The first result is using Firefox with a direct connection to the internet.
This one is using Firefox with a proxy server.
This is using Internet Explorer 6 with the same proxy server.
And this is using Internet Explorer without the proxy direct connection to the internet.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Made request shortly before midnight last night to be upgraded to 10meg (this was done online).
This morning I'm now enjoying much faster speeds. Test done with Safari and no proxy:
Good show, Virgin

Apologies if you thought i was complaining, however i was not. I'm not one to slate VM as they do me no wrong. As it happens the signal to my cable modem has gone crazy, tech coming tomorrow.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Hello!
I got my bill this morning and saw the price increase by £2 so would quite like my 10mb upgrade.
If I phone them up and ask for it now am I going to just be upgraded and everything else stays the same, no hidden costs or anything to worry about?
Thanks.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Hi, the £2 price increase is seperate to the speed increase.
If you want to register for the speed increase please go to www.virginmedia.com/gofaster

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Looks like I may as well wait. From that timetable showing when it will be ready to upgrade, my town isnt down until July/August.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
As you have seen the timetable that means you should now be registered to recieve the upgrade automatically
However, if you don't register you won't get the upgrade till October

As for registering it gives us Preference to get upgraded 1st when they do my/your area.
So I'll just have to put up with 2mb for now.

Sorry I think I can not be making my self clear.
Do I need to do anything to get the upgrade on my PC -when it is ready.
in other words even if its upgraded at Virgins end. Would I need to reboot my modem to get it to work or does it just happen as and when its upgraded?
Also when its done will I be advised or is it (in my case) pure luck that I will notice it! After using my PC at work ( .5mg on a BT line its as fast as we can get !!!) 2mg at home seems fast to me.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
I registered a couple of weeks ago in response to VM's email. Got a mailing from VM today stating "Good news! Your up to 10Mb broadband upgrade is here." I know fully well the upgrade hasn't reached us here yet, so no wonder customers are moaning.
Not only that but the wasted postage when I'd already registered, and they also print your main e-mail address behind the not very well stuck flap on the mailing.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
You probably will not be told of the upgrade so best thing is every day or so
reboot the modem and do a speed check . you will spot the speed jump from that
For referance Guildford area seems not Done yet . am in gu14 farnborough 1.97 IS
Best i get on 2meg

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade
Gus, might be a silly question but !
I thought every time you turn on the modem it's just like a reboot or am I missing something
or put another way "How do you reboot the modem" ?
Thanks.
