But you can reboot without turning the PC on, its so much quicker especially if less than 6 inches from my keyboard.

Not sure why you would want to do this if the PC wasn't on in the first place, but hey, each to his own.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Well it would appear that my area of Brighton has been upgraded. But please don't all cheer at once 'cos it's hardly any faster.

I stopped paying for the L broadband service last year because I felt VM were unable to deliver what they promissed. I supose that being as this upgrade is 'free' I shouldn't have expected to get what they promissed.

Would have been nice to be wrong for once though.

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

Cheers VMboy, that does seem to have made a difference. Now running 100Mb Half Duplex. Connected directly actually got 10Mb.

Via Netgear router (quite old), drops to around 8. Still better than I was geting though! Thanks!

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

When I login to my Virgin Media I get the nice display of 10Mb M, however my speeds have not changed. I did a speed test last night and it still says 2Mb and the 192.168.100.1 router operational config has not changed. How long does it take?

You're being upgraded, your slow speeds are temporary (~ 10 hours)

New manchester server been added to speedtest.net, Ping from here in Liverpool is better to Maidenhead than it is to Manchester, how does that work?

Re: Free 2 to 10 upgrade

I'm actually in Manchester and using SpeedTest.net on the 2 servers the ping is still better going to Maidenhead than just going up the road. Not that I would know what to do with a ping if I saw one.

Having now read so many of these 'speed' threads I understand that these test sites are not overly accurate at the best of times as far as speeds go so I have no idea whether they are any more accurate recording the mystic ping.
