Why tell you one thing to start then change it..No Logic with them is there.
When I was on 30mb my Wireless was great throughout the house, then got the 50mb and wireless dropped it's signal so had to buy extra plugs. What the heck is it going to be like at 70mb. No Wireless. lol
I been with NTL since they installed the cables in my area and Never complained once. Now I can see it's going downhill as the right hand not got a clue what the left hand is doing. Still, I guess we be lucky.

Show us the email they said you go from 50mbit to 100mbit as that was just internet gossip?

Wow, that config appears to be 70/5 - a jump from 3 to 5 up is a nice little boost and an improvement in ratio.
Yep, been hanging onto my BB:M, Phone:M, TV:XL loyalty bundle, maybe one day I'll try kicking the hornets nest of retentions - actually there was a previous deal which came close, something like "family".

Great way to advertise 200Mb, by showing two people using something that isn't even capable of using it.

good point Ignitionnet, maybe they should have included some high spec gaming as these are the people who need the faster internet speeds.

Do you have a copy of the email where VM said you'd go from 50 to 100MB? Allegedly they never said speeds would double.
It's all games with numbers and marketing anyway. I only came off the bottom tier because it worked out cheaper to increase speed on my package for some weird reason. Apart from downloading large files which I rarely do, I notice notice difference between 50 and 150MB.

Really? What sort of games and how do they use the fast speeds? (I don't follow the gaming scene at all, but am very interested in any application that genuinely needs high bandwidth connections)

Gaming's bandwidth needs are relatively modest. The exception being hosting games with a number of people on them which needs upload speed. Something VM aren't exactly famed for providing.
Large downloads and UHD streaming to multiple devices are the applications for right now.
Perhaps downloading a large game onto a console / PC would've been more appropriate alongside comment about not having to wait to play the newest title?

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
I had an email that originally said my speed would double... granted it never explicitly said it would go to 100, but it did initially say 'double'
I thought I'd put a copy of the email up here, can't find it, maybe I'm mistaken and it just said 'increased'

I had something about double too but I don't think it was referring to my current speed, will have to dig it out sometime.

Even those generally don't need more than 1-2Mbps at most, primarily to not exclude the vast majority of the ADSL connected world.

Haven't you learnt by now whenever VM says "double" it is never consistent with the mathematical concept double.

I've not actually seen anything that say double this time, because it's not. The customer email I got didn't say it either.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Why does VM give out such odd info. The guy in the local VM shop said "Just ring up and they'll you straight onto 70Mb", VM CS said you won't get 70MB until next year, and the web site says end of Nov?

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Bandwidth in games is pretty much updates of x,y and z coordinates of players and their actions. It scales with the number of players, and as Igni said if you are hosting you are receiving and sending all of it to each player, but the information contained in these updates is just a small amount of text.
It's the frequency of the updates that demands a reliable connection. Cables inherent jitter is actually bad for games, so BT's 'fibre', despite being slower for downloads, is usually better for games.
