I guess a lot of people are thrashing their connection at the moment testing speeds and such, I know I downloaded more than average after the upgrade came through to test.
Just hope the new toy experience doesn't last long. I'm suprised there arn't any other threads on here from people who were on previously borderline UBR's complaining, so well done NTL for their network holding out so well. I guess I'll hold off any more compliments till the automatic upgrades go through .

Well a BIG turnaround for me on this one and a lot of grovelling appologies to be made I play a lot of online gaming on 1 server in particular (US). Since the upgrades were rolled out my connection has been diabolical, pings of 180 to 200 are not uncommon. I cannot beleive it is a coincidence that it happened all of a sudden when it has been stable for years. What are the chances that it is people hammering there connections for all they are worth?, If this is the case then Bring on the caps i was anti cap but this has made me realise that some users do make it worse for others, and that cannot continue. So appologies to all concerned if i offended anyone in previous threads on my anti cap stance.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Hi,
I seem to be having trouble getting upgraded to 3Mbit.
First of all I tried to do it online, and it failed something about no SMS details....
Then I called CS last night, was told it would be fine, to wait 10 minutes and then reboot my CM. Did this and nothing happened. Though I would wait and see if it had happened by morning.... it didn't. Called them again and found they'd updated my billing account, but not the actual service account, and that this was now done and I'd have the new speed.... I don't.
I have been rebooting my CM, (a TJ210), and its not grabbing any new firmware, just coming straight back up.
Any suggestions anyone?
Cheers!

Don't just accept it, let the company know and they will hopefully get it sorted for you.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I have 750k broadband and its not upgraded yet.
1)What was the downloading cap before these upgrades for 750k?
2)How do I know if I have Black Set Top Box?
3) I tried to upgrade through that speed upgrade link, I get the same message as Johno, how do I find out my broadband acount username and password?
4) What is the point of this speed upgrade link, if NTL are going to upgrade everyone, apart from 300k users?
5) Are there any 750k who aint upgraded yet?

The las t time this happened was when i went onto 1.5mb and NTL sorted it out it only happened after 5 oclock roughly the time when everyone got home from work and the kids hit the net etc etc. To be fair to NTL they sorted it out supplied me with free net for three months. I still cannot beleive it is a coincidence, My neighbour is on a 3mb connection as well constantly on usent where it takes him 3 and a half hours to download an entire dvd. He is doing this 24/7, then comes the p2p users, downloading god alone knows what. It is not very hard to see where the problems are going to arise with usage. So to the heavy users who need to download the internet everyday flame away.

Umm, it'll be black!
No, seriously, the only other type is the silver Samsung box. If your box is black/charcoal grey it will say 'Pace' on it, the manufacturer's name.

If you get your broadband through your set top box, you can't upgrade online.

It has always been there, to allow tier changes, eg 300k to 750k.

Plenty, it'll all be done in the coming weeks.

OK, heres me feeling a little silly!!!
I run the Linksys WRT54G with custom firmware, and have been running QoS....
Using QoS/tc on the router is great, but of course it restricts your down/uploads when configured appropriately......
Everything is working fine now
ADSLGuide reports:
Direction
Actual Speed
True Speed (estimated)
Downstream2861 Kbps (357.6 KB/sec)3089 Kbps (inc. overheads)Upstream283 Kbps (35.4 KB/sec)305 Kbps (inc. overheads
Hope you all get yours sorted ASAP!!!
Regards

Fact 3. Most customers CAN upgrade via the website speed upgrade link http://www.ntlworld.com/data-feeds/...s/tierMigration with the exception of STB PACE Boxes that are presently on 750/1Mb (see above) and to further complicate matters any customer on XBox/PS2 and Broadband Plus will not be able to connect after the upgrade (call technical support for a fix)
Fact 4. Customers who have not registered their product correctly (mostly STB) will not be able to upgrade via the speed upgrade site because they haven't got a valid account
|
As scrotnig has said a couple of times, there's no online upgrade facility for STBs which I've bitched about internally before now).
There are quite a few upgraded STBs on 1MB now, a few on 2Mb and hardly any on 3Mb - count yourself lucky if you are!
Also, wait till we start doing automatic upgrades before slating us too much - we do actually know what we're doing (although it would be nice if all CSRs were properly informed).
