Re: 50Mb areas

Hi,

Perhaps I'm being a little suspicious... But I'll bet that Preston is upgraded near the end of the list...

They seem to be enjoying letting the current UBR's creak on under heavy oversubscription whilst trialling new STM.

I am in the unfortunate position of being unable to get a decent broadband connection from anyone !

ADSL is ok but because of my poor BT line I get 4Mb max and random dropouts.
Cable would be ok if only they'd upgrade my UBR which I have been told is running in the high 90%'s most evenings meaning 20Mb is impossible and 10Mb can be obtained for a few hours a day (so much for superduper fibre optics !)

I have had oversubscription tickets open since September 2007 (yes 2007, 19 months) and have been told by the CEO office that there is no upgrade on the horizon..

I'm guessing that when 50Mb is released in Preston, a lot of the pressure will be taken off the existing tiers (or am I dreaming ?)

I wouldn't say it would take alot of the pressure off, but it will make some difference.

Ah.....

I was under the impression that 20Mb users would be moved to the docsis 3 network thus leaving the existing UBR's for 10Mb only ?

From what i have read on here there is no plan to move 20mb to docsis 3 only to move us on to the docsis 3 platform using docsis 1.1/2.0 configs.

Any more Areas updated yet?

Hi Broadbandings,

Can you tell me how this indicates the 50Mb upgrades are happening ?

I seem to be able to ping pres-cmts-xx.network.virginmedia.com right upto 99 and beyond !

I'm just clutching at straws here in rainy Preston !

Thanks

Bri

No you can't, you're using OpenDNS aren't you?

There's actually 12 there but if OpenDNS can't resolve something and you haven't opted out it'll resolve its' own pages.

VM are as far as I know not deploying any legacy equipment so CMTS-05 and 06 appearing in this area almost certainly means that they are 50Mbit compatible equipment.

Hi,

This is why I love this place ! Always someone (usually Broadbandings !) who can give you an answer.

So, does the presence of cmts-1 to cmts-12 indicate that 12 new rigs have been installed or do these include the old UBR's too ?
If there are 12 new cmts's in Preston isn't that rather a lot !?

Cheers again and sorry if the questions are stupid !

Good, because I do have these nightmares of being nominated for most helpful post awards and it just wouldn't do with my rep.
