They'll just ignore it like the last one, (which was incidentally instigated by the Argentinian's themselves) by saying the islanders aren't aborigional.

Re: Falkland Islands: Tensions Rising
I hope the Argentianians and others who support them accept the referendum result, in their favour or not!

They won't. They already accept the people living on the islands want to remain British, they just don't accept they have any say in the matter. They erroneously claim that the inhabitants have no right to occupy 'their' land despite the fact they have no legal or historical claim, other than proximity, to the islands.
This is just to send a message to Argentina, and the world, that the islands will remain British and will make it easier to argue that the UN's policy of right of self-determination should be respected if it's ever brought to the UN.

Well like it or not the people of the Falklands have lived there for sometime, before Argentina ever exsisted.
What they have to realise that if they want those Islands, then they need to chance the way they deal with it

What Argentina need to realise is that it's not going to happen, as the islanders clearly wish to remain British.

I am pretty most people in Argentina do not care about the Falklands too much, the economy is a bigger issue
Also can nations like Brazil, Chile etc stop backing Argentina over this?

The ones I know don't..they can see right through this corrupt bunch of crooks and know that all this posturing is purely done to try and hide corruption over the economy in the run up to elections.

We will wait and see, until then let's see that the Islanders themselves have to say about all this

Re: Falkland Islands: Tensions Rising
The islanders are goign to say what they've always said and that is they still want to be British.. Then the Argies will say what they always say that the Falklands should be theirs...
The only good thing about this referendum is as I said in my last post and that it gives a clearer indication to the UN that the status quo is correct and not how the Argies pretend it to be in all their requests..

Well If it is now legal under International law for Britain to retain the Falklands (which is what the people want), then it helps out cause!

Re: Falkland Islands: Tensions Rising
There is no such thing as international law - nothing a State does is "legal" or "illegal" in the eyes of any other State. There are treaties, conventions and what you can get away with, which ultimately still comes down to a combination of political skill with economic and military power.
The Falklands remain British because we have the means to keep them and Argentina lacks the means to take them.
