I feel as soon as one of these providers are available world wide the game is up. Netflix are charging ahead in this respect. The bigger they grow the more content they can secure. I think long term Netflix will be able to outbid other streaming services for exclusive content. It won't be long until Netflix are looking to do deals for content on a global scale rather than territory to territory.
Just how I see it.

Media Boy Views: Idea lineup for Channel 5 channels from February 4th on Virgin Media.
With Channel 5 set to axe 5* +1 next month for Channel 5 +24 to launch WHY cant Virgin do the following with Channel 5?
151. Channel 5 +1 (Moved from Channel 155)
152. Channel 5 +24
153. 5* (Moved from Channel 151)
154. 5USA (Moved from Channel 153)

They may well go global, Chad, I agree with that, but there is a limit and the competition laws will have to come in somewhere.

I think you're right there OB. Apparently that is the choice of young people right now. And the 'not so young' (well at least me) are joining them.
The vast majority of my viewing, for quite some time now, has come from streamed content. So much so that, although I haven't done it yet, I'm pretty sure I'm going to cancel the TV side of VM. I was planning on getting a Freeview PVR but have put that on hold whilst I experiment to see what it's like sourcing all the Freeview shows that I watch from the UK broadcasters catchup services. So far that is proving successful. The only negative side is having to put up with non HD versions from the other broadcasters apart from the BBC. So it may be that very soon, everything I watch is streamed.
And I do pay to access the non Freeview content; It's just that I would prefer to pay for what I want to watch rather than partly fund BT sport.

The tradional terrestrial and pay TV platforms will always get the content first purely because they have a far greater reach especially with the likes of US TV imports , look at shows like Revenge (E4) , Hostages (channel 4) there available to anyone with a TV licence which is far greater than Netflix's 2 million UK subscribers , even the shows picked up by the likes of Sky One , Fox etc have a far greater reach as they are available on the majority of UK pay TV platforms.
This is the reason why most of the content on the streaming services is generally older , the exception being there originally created content.

I found this interesting:
Quote:
It’s also worth noting that given Netflix’s and LOVEFiLM’s desire to pursue more exclusive content for the UK, it’s only a matter of time before both start acquiring first run content out of the screenings (especially given that both had reps at last year’s screenings for the very first time).

Netflix Netherlands seem to have recently acquired the rights to Nashville. Not only have they put season One up but are adding episodes of the current season, Two, the day after the episode airs in the US. I seem to recall the UK Netflix did the same thing with another US series.

Yeah passingbat the UK one did it with the AMC shows Breaking Bad and The Killing. They're doing it with the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul later this year too.

They want to do that now; The only thing that prevents them from doing it for any specific title is that the streaming rights already belong to a broadcaster, or they have to wait until the broadcaster holding the first run rights has actually aired the show.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV 2014
Sky's half year results are to be announced on Thursday. It will be interesting to see if anything is said that affects channels coming to VM. They may say something about the launch of Sky Bravo and maybe something even more exciting....

Dog TV is rumoured to launch on both VM and Sky within 3rd quarter of this year.
