This happened to me, they didn't seem bothered I was switching my tv services to sky, they was more interested in me not sending my V+ back and keeping freeview M tv, basically my V+ is stuffed in the back of the wardrobe not even connected, it could be having a wild adventure in a snowy wonderland for all I know.

No disrespect meant, but it sounds a bit unlikely that Customer Service Advisors would say something like that to downgrading customers - sounds a bit apocryphal.

When I got rid of my tv service, they didn't try to persuade me to keep it. I told them what i wanted to do and they said ok, it'll be switched off in 30 days.

In the month that I had given notice to leave Virgin Media (granted it was nearly a year ago) I received four different calls with various offers to extend my stay,I would suggest this is one very positive side to Virgin Media Customer service,on the other hand when I left Sky the year before they told me "Thanks for letting us know your service will cease on xxxx and your final bill will follow",no follow up calls etc etc, and as I was paying around £85 a month at the time I found this a little strange to say the least.I have since come back to Virgin Media for my phone and BB which I consider to be 100% better than when I left, the 120mg service and Superhub 2 have been faultless since install, for me though Sky have the channel line up and (dare I say it) a better user experience with their STB at the moment, but if they continue to improve their TV Channel line up and TiVo system at the rate that they have done with their broadband I will not hesitate to come back to them with my TV service,so keep up the good work Virgin Media...

When I rang to cancel TV and phone, they only seemed interested in trying to persuade me to keep the phone. Their argument was that if I didn't have a virgin media phone I would have to pay a fortune to speak to them. I use Vonage voip (4p/2p a minute) they offered to reduce the phone rental to £2 per month (£24 per year), I'd have to be on the phone to them for over 4 hours for that to be worthwhile. I've rung them no more that 6 times in 4 years. The woman couldn't see the logic.

Similar happened to me. I wanted just the broadband which was going to be £22.50 a month but they persuaded me to keep the phone by saying I could have the phone for just 99p extra per month on top of the £22.50 on an 18month loyalty discount.

They are really only giving you the discount that people paying the line rental upfront for 12 months are given.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 6.
I am really annoyed that they have offered the line rental for 99p/£2.00 to the above posters to hopefully keep them . this seems absurd when the majority of people are paying full line rental or payment up front rental. I know people should phone up and see what kind of reduction on their bill they could get by threatening to leave but they should not have to constantly do this to get a fair price for their services. it seems to me that they have just put the prices up again to help pay for the aforementioned line rental bribes to others. robbing peter to pay Paul springs to mind. I will of course be on the phone on Monday to let them know how I feel.cheers john

Please re-read what you wrote, nicko, and see how stupid and nonsensical it is.
goerdiechris said he was offered a phonline for 99p extra per month.
You said that was just the same discount as you get for paying line rental in advance. You pay £120 in advnace for line rental, the equivalent of £10 per month.
How is £10 per month even close to as good a deal as 99p per month?
