Re: Ban the burkha ?
I am an atheist but I only believe that they must show their faces in areas where security requires it such as banks, petrol stations and airports or anywhere else that requires your face to be uncovered for security.
Security must come first regardless of peopoles beliefs or customs.

I wasn't ranting particularly about Burkhas just the supposition that all religions should be banned.
I'll go with the idea that Burkha wearers reveal themself to a female security guard but not a complete ban in all public places.I've said so before.

I knew that you were not ranting and I know that you think on similar lines to myself with regards to this issue.

Nice, tolerant post there Someone else believed that. He commanded his army to annex Poland a few years back.

Re: Ban the burkha ?
Just common sense. It had its day in the middle ages, now we've reached a level where we (the more educated of us) know it's a load of rubbish, we should let it go to drift into obscurity. 72 virgins, talking snakes, it's all a load of old cods whallop, fairy tales made up centuries ago to explain the Earth and why things are. We'd be better off without it.

This is exactly what I believe, and how I see it.

I ask again, why do you have to be Aesop's Dog in a Manger?Who are you to decide these things.
Claiming the higher ground by reason of being more educated isn't going to work either. There are many, many highly educated people such as say physicists, doctors,University lecturers, philosophers, psychiatrists who believe in a religion.

'Deciding'? I thought it was just his opinion he was stating.
Just like if you have an opinion about something like 'the burkha should be banned completely' I don't take that as it has to happen. I take it that it's just what you think should happen.

Just a figure of speech..you do know what those are don't you?
Funny how you can answer my questions to other people but can't answer any that are directed to you...

I guess you dont celebrate Christmas or Easter then
Gary its nice to see you actually post with a proper point of view rather than skipping around the subject with odd comments and questioning questions

Yes, but for you to say "Who are you to decide these things." isn't the same as "Who are you to have an opinion on these things"

I wasn't answering a question as such. I was questioning a figure of speech.

Yes, but not for the 'right' reasons. it's still Christmas whether it's for the right or for the wrong

Re: Ban the burkha ?
just to point out that NOT believing in religion is as heinous in some cultures as believing seems to be to some members in this forum . i am not religious ,but i will defend anybody's right to have a faith ,as i would expect them to defend my right NOT to have one

Not to mention that many of the rules, laws and conventions in maths and science we use today are down to ancient Romans and Greeks.
