Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
It wouldn't be England if we didnt lose.. part of the fun
In a way, i'm quite glad that we're out, I can not watch another game like that for a while.. it's stressed me no end. Pacing and Pacing and pacing.
Really feel for Vassall nothing seems to go right for the lad, he works his backside off.. and his finishing is usually impeccable. To miss a penno.. sucks.
As for the disallowed goal.. well I'm fed up of what ifs, and all.. but that was not on. There was tit for tat here and there, and the portugal players were doing far worse to the england players. Campball showed he was the strongest, and best headerer there.. and put it in the net, however that swiss swong decided opposite.. He didn't even consult his linesman!! He must have some gut to make a decision like that without any prior consulation, what a fool. Collina should of reffed that match, he's top draw.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
owen hargreaves had an unfortunate night, but hes played well int he tournie beforehand. Scholes should have stayed on a bit more, and as well as rooney (if he wasnt injured) then the outcome would have been different.

Shame about the disallowed goal, that was a classic header. If there was a foul, it appeared to me from replays to be by the keeper not on the keeper.
Can't complain tho, I bet Beckham would miss another penalty at odds of 10-1 pity I only put a tenner on it.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
I don't wish to to sound like I'm gloating but I've said all along - England are not currently capable of going all the way in a major final. There's no way they were going to get past the semi finals. It would be nice I suppose...but it won't happen for a while.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
Excellent Poll whoever posted it.
Now England are out can we get back to having something decent to watch on telly, without overindulgence and hype on sports that we know, if we are truthful to ourselves, that we havent got the slightest hope of winning. All we need now is for Henman to give up at Wimbledon and we can get back to normality. Oh forgot wev'e got to suffer the Olympics soon.

Exactly Russ.
England will never have a world class team all the time that the players are forced to put their clubs first.
Beckhams genius was lost the day he fell out with Alex Ferguson.
The one shining light in the tournament for England was an 18 year old lad who gave his all for his country. When he left the pitch the game was lost.
That says more about the state of National football than I ever could.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
Well, I'm just glad it's over now instead of losing on penalties in the Finals. That'd be too much to take.
Anyway, even if we'd gotten through to the semi's, we'd have probably got thrashed.
I hate to admit it but Rooney's the only reason we got this far IMO, now he's injured; without him we wouldn't stand a chance with our current squad.

Well, I have to say that I think England's main problem is that if they score early, they appear to start playing for time, maybe congratulating themselves for scoring (in fact, in this game they did congratulate themselves for scoring a goal that was disallowed, and the portugese took advantage of that fact to go running toward our goal). England need to attack continually, not score one or two goals and then play defensively.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
Shouldnt the ref have blown the whistle for a goal kick then? if it indeed was a push call.

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell
They've been excellent all tournament, but tonight they were on another planet - especially Cole - what a performance!!!!!
As for the ref - see below.
Check out his homepage and send him some feedback. I told him i wasn't eating any more Swiss Rolls and that he could stick his Cuckoo Clock up his ass - wonder if they will publish that amoungst the other feedback??

Re: MERGED - Euro 2004
England were never good enough. That's why they lost. They've never won any penalty shootouts ever. If they were good they would have won by now. England have never even been in a European championship final ever. And I can say in the world cup, they won't reach further than the quarter finals. If that.
