Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk
It's worth a shot. They are sure to offer you a deal as they have to compete with talktalk now.

Wonder if Bulldog are running scared too. Maybe I'll give them a bell on Tuesday and see what they'll offer me.

Well am i glad i moved to bt today. Because if NTL are giving these offers then they will be in trouble soon enough. They have trouble making any sort of a profit on what they charge now so how will they do it when they are charging next to nothing.

At uni we had telewest (I honestly still cant believe they're effectively the same company as NTL) and had 2mb and it made such a difference. The upload was twice what i'm on now. And as there are deals flying around at the mo, and UK Online offer 22mb!! bb for £30 I feel hard done by!

Are you taking the p!$£ with this statement, of course you are going to get slow up/down loads you are paying for 1meg. But if you are having problems ring ntl faults and they will sort it out.

I think his point was that other providers could give him more for (roughly) the same money, I guess that's why he feels hard done to.

So when are you going to admit you jumped too soon?!
I say milk them for what you can until the offers run out or they go bust. They'd do the same to you!

You can't see money being a problem?
They only just managed to avoid bankruptcy by the skin of their teeth.
They bought Virgin Mobile mainly with shares, they have limited money at the moment - well they always have.

Bill's service hasn't worked properly for ages, why would he stay even at a reduced price?

why pay 1bn for a company if you have no money ? why not just purchase telewest and rebrand ?
of course they have money
ntl / telewest / whoever they are will have to pay 0.25% royalties on its revenue for three decades - with a minimum annual payment of £8.5m - to Virgin Enterprises for the use of the brand name created by Sir Richard.

Because Ntl cant help themselves when it comes to swallowing other companies.

What's that got to do with them having cash to splash about?

Whatever made you think that, have you forgotten they only just missed becoming bankrupt?
This is OT but Ntl swapped shares with Dicky Branson for Virgin mobile, he now owns 12.5% (or whatever) on the combined Ntl/Telewest/Virgin company AIUI hardly any money was spend.
Ntl are skint. Why do you think they're not expanding by building extensions to their network?
This is all academic anyway. If Ntl are selling BB/Phone line/Calls for less than it costs them to provide then they'll go bust anyway regardless of weather they have cash spare or not.
If you're really interested I'm sure there's a thread knocking about with the details of the merger/acquisition with info from Frank/Neil on exactly how much money and shares were involved.
Edit - Can't find that post bu here's another: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...&postcount=124
Edit #2 - Even Bill C states there's no moey for repairs: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...&postcount=119
