I'd sit and wait, SKY have plans to bring in a similar product - ie. a LLU package which is likely to be 'free' for subscribers who have a premium package - i.e. movies and sports or HD or SKY+. Things are going to rapidly change in the market over the next 6-12 months - so signing an 18month contract with TalkTalk could be unwise.

talktalk already have a poor reputation for service on their existing broadband products.

yes you will benefit from the competition. and the only price change I can think of recently in NTL's BB product range is the 10meg product being reduced to £35 a month from £38.

I found out about this at the w/end and sent her links from the register and told her to complain to wanadoo as it's their LLU that's the fault not BT. She rang Wandaoo and they agreed the problem was LLU but said it was BT's fault and hard luck, enjoy your dial up!
LLU isn't the leading edge of broadband, it's the bleeding edge.

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
I'm going to predict TalkTalk being on Watchdog within the next 3 months.
Hopefully they'll get it right and cause an overall drop in prices throughout the market but whenever a company tries to expand very quickly (Ntl free dialup, bulldog, freeserve etc.) there always seems to be problems.
Its not very reassuring to see the TalkTalk site already buckling under the strain and the availability checker being offline.

Well, given you have already said that you do not have a BT line installed you will have to wait a year to move onto TalkTalk unless you want to pay BT an extra £132 on top of the £99 install to get out of their contract early!

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
I'm sure TalkTalk can install a line for you (but probably a £99+ install)
Is the BT standard contract not only 3 months anyway?
Still I reckon the lead time for installations will start growing pretty quickly.

To be fair, demand must be pretty exceptional today. It's not often that a company undercuts everyone else by 50%, for a product that millions of people buy. The big rush would have been lunchtime when I, and many others, read the BBC news website - it was one of their top stories.
You can't expect them to buy enough servers for this tidal wave, as it will probably not happen again after today.

If it is like other LLU offerings then the requirement will be that you already have a BT line installed.

The BT contract is 3 months for reconnections (no install required) or 12 months for new installations.

The last time I was looking at a LLU offering I was sure there was an option to get the line installed at the same time. I'll have a dig around and check.
EDIT: Bulldog seem to be able to supply a new line during the ordering process

Re: [Merged] Car Phone Warehouse BB
Bulldog is FULL local loop unbundling which means they unbundle the voice and data part and therefore can do the line install. all other LLU operators that I can think of do the partial LLU ie. just the ADSL part - so BT are responsible for the line install. if they unbundle the data part I think they pay BT £1.66 a month for the line - full unbundle increases the cost to around £6.66.
and no you cant buy a bulldog line and put someone else's ADSL on it.
