Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
On Fox News, so I don't know how accurate this is, but a commentator on there said the the planes Transponder, and ACAR systems had been turned off this plane before it deviated course.
Which is why they are having such problems determining where it went. Essentially the only way to track the plane then is by RADAR, of which it just becomes blip on a screen and only as far as you have RADAR coverage.
If this is true, combined with stories of people being able to ring phones etc.
I don't know. it starts to look a bit weird.
Disabling the Transponder and ACAR, if true, suggests a deliberate act to try and fly the plane undetected.
I'm not going to jump on the conspiricy bandwagon, I still think it crashed somewhere, but it is an interesting mystery at the moment.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
The public handling of the situation by the Malaysian authorities is beyond farcical.
God knows what the families of the missing must be going through when nobody actually seems to have a grip on the facts, either that or there's something or things that are not being divulged and they are trying to formulate a way out.

It is all very strange ... just feel for the families involved ... The waiting for news must be torture. God Love Them.

Grown ups, i.e. China, have entered the search now and might have found it. They've sent around these images which, although grainy, seem to show some debris in the sea.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
how many heads were searching images? 1 or 2? i mean come on near enough everyone takes interest in things like this whether they officially announce help or not. it doesn't add up, too slow. if these images have been released to the press today fine, but authorities wise they should have got these images a lot faster. the families should have word from search and rescue by now.

It's not as though they are pics of a local pond.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
I don't care what your views are on vast amounts of data being collected and sieved through. In situations like this the world takes a big interest. A missing passenger jet is a big deal whatever way you look at it. If various different authorities from different Countries don't man a team up to look into it, especially to help one that hasn't exactly got the resources to do all the fancy things another could do then we're screwed! I would hate to be in that position. Who initially took charge looking for the passenger jet ?

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears
Did someone say on here recently that passengers mobile phones where still ringing when being called? If that is the case, and some passengers phones still have battery power, can the location of their mobile phones be traced?

I don't know the in's and out's however I'd imagine some of the mobiles would have GPS tracking which in theory would allow them to be traced easily.

Yes, of course they can, but they have to be triangulated by masts. If there's no or little coverage. Then they can't be found.

Thanks for that explanation Pierre, do not really know much about modern/tech stuff as I call it. Son say's I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to modern stuff. My thoughts are with the family members of those who were on board the plane as they seem to clinging to hope and hoping for the impossible and who can blame them when loved one's are concerned, hope there nightmare ends soon as I cannot possibly imagine what they are going through...
