Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues

Yes most of Falkirk is using the gyle. It's been officially recognised as a fault now and is being worked on. Will be given a fault reference tomorrow.

then why are the technical support people that I phone tell me that there is nothing wrong and that my spyware is causing the problem!?!??!?!

I've got my new hub today and I'm still getting the same speeds.

I wouldn't mind as long as everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet.

Mate I think they say that about everything, I once got told to pull my router cable out turn it the other way around & put it back in again.

Like everyone here I have the same issues, its not STM as far as I know as its happening at more random times than if it was STM if that makes sense, plus when STM is in affect as far as I know it affects P2P & newsgroup speeds, not web browsing or speed tests.

*JB66,

Thanks for tying to get us as much info as you can, I do hope if it is definitely an issue then it will be fixed shortly, I would say the only good thing is that so many people have the same problem which means its likely to get looked at (hopefully) I am very optimistic considering I am just back from the footie.

I've noticed that my speed tends to go back to normal in the very early hours and tends to hold steady until around 4pm then it slow drifts away, come 6pm its 5pm, come 8pm and I'm wanting to watch a programme online that needs 2.5meg, forget about it, it just keeps sticking.

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues

It's not STM but may be STM related, as it kicks in the same hours as STM typically would. Maybe the STM equipment is malfunctioning and slowing everything down for example.

It starts at 4pm and tails off after midnight (you can see this from my graphs in the other thread), at the weekend it starts at 12, which again ties in with STM hours. Or maybe just peak times, which STM hours were designed to cover.

Re: Edinburgh Connection Issues

I am really glad when I posted this I wasn't the only one, and lots of people who are more technically minded than me can prove there is an issue.

I agree with qasdfdsaq that it seems to be around peak times EVERYTHING is being throttled by accident - hopefully now the case has been raised there will be action taken.

Slow speed is classed as degraded service, so it wouldn't go on the status page, only loss of a service or severe degradation would flag on that page.

I'm in Falkirk mate but this is a response i got back from VM, I posted it on my own thread as well, but will post it here seeing as people are telling me that the Falkirk connection runs through Edinburgh

Hi blairhoyle,

I can see from our records that you activated your new modem a few days ago. Has this improved the connection?

I have checked the network segment and cannot see any issues with noise or utilisation that would affect your connection.
Kind Regards,

Must be something else going on rather than poor SNR, FEC or utilisation. I've seen something similar in Derby a couple of years ago... I'm not in work so I can't do any checks myself.

Has anyone else reported via the Community Forum?

There is a big thread on the Edinburgh issues mate but no one else has entered my thread on Falkirk in the community forum, however there is a poster on this forum who lives 4 miles away from me who is having the same problems as I am.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33680469-issues-falkirk-fk1-area-please-help.html

is it right enough that Falkirk is fed from Edinburgh also?
