Re: ITV Player HAS arrived
Yes i had a look at a couple of programs. Law and Order UK and Wild at Heart. Both were good picture quality. Also no adverts. That has to be good. Like ER on 4 on catch up on demand. No adverts. Great.
I shall be watching more and more on demand stuff in future. Less recording.

Unfortunately there will be ads on the cable version too. VM have been trialling such a system for about a year. When the EPG gets its next upgrade, probably around summer time, then I'd imagine the ads would be implemented then. But hopefully the ads will appear only at the beginning of the programmes, rather than during them.

Re: ITV Player HAS arrived
Here in Bromley land we got the ITV Net Player on Thursday. Interested to see that they included Wednesday's Coronation Street in the Catch Up listings even though it was shown before we had the service.

Re: ITV Player HAS arrived
ITV Player finally arrived in London yesterday. I was expecting a similar number of programmes to the web version. Anyone any idea if and when we can expect the same content on VM as on the web - or is that just wishful thinking?

Re: ITV Player HAS arrived
The catch up service contract is for about 40hrs a week. So as it stands at the moment I doubt that will change very radically at all. I don't use the web version though, do you mean tv choice on demand section as that's something I'd like to know myself.

If they're during cant you just fast forward through them?

No, the ads are fixed, they can't be fast forwarded.

I've actually been wondering about this. It wouldn't be too bad if it was perhaps 15-30 seconds of ads, but a full ~4 minute ad break that you couldn't fast forward through would be hell, and very unpopular I'd imagine.
This is one of the reasons why I'm all for using VOD technology to show personalised TV ads - ITV, C4 and the rest are dependent on ad revenue, and if they can prove (well, not 100% prove obviously, but reasonably demonstrate) to the advertisers that ads are getting shown to people who are actually interested in the product, it logically follows that they could charge more for showing them.
For example, it's pointless showing me debt consolidation (my debt is fine in bite-sized chunks, thank you very much!), personal injury (if I've been hit by a car or something, I was more than likely not looking where I was going) and car (even if I was about to learn to drive - which I'm not - there's virtually nowhere to park in a city centre and anyway I certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to buy a brand new car as my first) ads. However, bombard me with ads for the new MacBook (hmm, perhaps debt consolidation might not be so irrelevant!) and the Palm Pre, when it arrives here (I'm a shameless Apple fanboi and I love my iPhone, but I really did love my Treos just as much) and you'd be onto something...

I record all the programmes I want to see onto my V+ anyway, but if we start to get more HD programmes coming through, I will be using more space on the hard drive, which will force me into considering other ways of seeing the programmes my wife and I want to watch when we want to watch them.
One of the options (which I use on a limited basis at the moment) is to access some of these programmes via Video on Demand (eg Question Time on the BBC i-Player). Clearly, there is more opportunity to use VOD as back up now that we have the ITV Net Player and I will certainly use this. However, if they start putting advertisements in half way through the programmes, they won't get me watching them! One, or maybe two advertisements just before the programme I might put up with, but anything else and I won't be watching the ITV Net Player if I can't fast forward through the advertisements.

Judging by what the internet version has, it will only be one advert. This is a little extended though.

Re: ITV Player HAS arrived
Does anyone know if Whitechapel will be uploaded? It was on the web player but I have not been able to see it in the Catch up TV A to Z section.
I am only too willing to be told that it is operator error and I am looking in the wrong place
Thanks,

I know it's been eagerly anticipated, so wanted to post this before I start work. There is a list of programs from the last seven days, but whilst ITV is now on the TV Choice section, nothing has yet been added.
Surprised me as BBC iPlayer was advertised well in advance, and 24th feb was just a rumour.
Any way, off to work,

why would anyone want anything ITV produce anyway ?
