Re: When is the next software update planned?
There was a software update today. This has resulted in many people, myself included, with no TV channels at all.
I have reported the problem but they simply don't believe that it isn't the V+ box. Each time I have called I hear a message stating that the next town to me is experiencing problems. When I tell them this the CS operative don't listen!

Id go to the Newsgroups and post there about it.
They are usually good about that kind of stuff.

Re: When is the next software update planned?
Some things I would like to see in the next software update (for standard Virgin boxes anyway);
- The ability to disable 'press red' functionality or turn off the prompts (we used to have this option ages ago - why not now?)
- On Demand updates (fast forward and rewind speeds, chapter selection, playlists)
- Longer EPG (7 days - although it will probably never happen)
- Fix the bootup procedure so boxes (well, mine does anyway) don't display "ntl:home" followed by the Virgin Media screen (maybe the "ntl:home" screen is built into the box and not the software?)
- Enable audio description on the main channels so we don't have to have copies of them on the EPG (why does this happen anyway?) - surely they could use that space for new channel launches?
- Change the Sky Movies PIN system so once the PIN's been entered on one Sky Movies channel, the box remembers it when flicking up and down the channels - it's annoying having to enter it everytime we flick up or down a channel (maybe set a time limit on it so it remembers the PIN for 15 minutes or something)
- Digital Text (yes, a long shot I know)

Re: When is the next software update planned?
The code download isn't going to happen in most of the UK for at least another few weeks, we've had updates that only a few selected areas have had the 'tester' to make sure that it doesn't cause any problems - funnily enough there has been so it requires a bit more tweaking before anyone else gets it!
Will keep you posted, as soon as it's ready to be rolled out I'll post the dates.

Does it fix the awful EPG speed?

Re: When is the next software update planned?
They need a whole new fresh layout imo. At the moment it's not bad at all and i actually prefere the remote over the sky one. I just think the layout of the EPG could be better. Not really a fan of the black background either
General browsing through the EPG isn't THAT bad, but i agree it could do with a speed boost. I've had it 2 days now and its froozen and lagged on me twice when browsing EPG!
Wouldn't say to no faster "fast forward" options to :P

Re: When is the next software update planned?
Just a V+ code at the moment, from what I know.
And no fix to the EPG. Its slow because of the recording...

Something I stumbled upon last year. I discovered a loophole in the PIN system. I can switch between the movie channels without having to press the red button or even enter the PIN.
1) Go into the 'Locked Channels' section of the 'Settings' Menu. You will need the PIN for this bit so the kiddies shouldn't be able to do it.
2) Move down to the movie channels and lock the channel and then unlock it again.
3) Do this for each of the required channels.
You should now be able to switch between the movie channels without a PIN or red button as if they were any other channel. This is how the system should work for us adults that dont have kiddies around.
The PIN protection system seems to work by having a hidden channel lock.
These hidden locks are cleared after the watershed and set again in the early morning reset(6-7am?).This trick will work until then or a STB reset of any sort.
You can 'unprotect' the channels after 7am and unless a manual STB reset/reboot or a VM generated reset occurs there should be no problems for the rest of the day.

Confirmation of what you say from the newsgroup. Thank you for your insight.
Hi all,
I'm pleased to confirm that yesterday morning we downloaded the new V+
software release to the Crawley and Southport areas. Over the coming days we
will deploy to four further pilot regions - Swindon, Warwick, Wessex and
York.
Whilst customer pilot is the final formal stage in our software release
process before we deploy to all customers, issues can be found during this
phase which lead to the software going back into development. Because of
this we won't announce full deployment dates here until the pilot is
successfully completed.
Thanks,
Stephen Featham
