On a serious note though the labourer I employ also had a good year because his earnings are directly linked to mine ,the more I earn ,the more he earns but as a nasty, evil,baby eating ,Tory supporting employer I should be ashamed of myself and immediately desist from earning so much money

Yep, so at worse, its a good savings scheme, at best, if the shares go up significantly, you can make quite a killing.
My previous employer did such a scheme 15 years ago, and I put in £250 a month then (for 3 years).
As just a savings scheme, I would have got back about £10,000, but the shares I got were worth nearer £14,000.

the last one i did was when we where NTL unfortunately the shares went from $50 to $0.49 over night when we went into chapter 11 bankruptcy i didn't lose i got an extra 20% on my investment .

Sounds about right for some managers who think staff should all be bordering on destitute and are stealing their money being paid more. I'm sure said manager has no trouble putting £250 a month into the sharesave plan

I have a rubbish salary but get good amount of holiday time and to me that counts for a lot at the moment.

That's something I definitely don't get right now, the holiday time. 20 days + public holidays a year with zero sick pay; if I'm unwell it has to come out of my leave.
