Re: The Pirate Bay is blocked (Discuss but do not post detail of how to get round it)
Looks like the BPI need to get a court order forcing all ISPs to set up DDoS attacks.... (well at least they apparently work). The proxy script I set up and anonymouse are both still giving me timeouts but the Pirate Party one is working again - at least I just got to the home page anyway.

An announcement on their forum says it's still under a DDOS attack ,rumor is it's anonymous ,possibly in retaliation for TPB's remarks about them the other week

No, they didn't - they were granted more time to 'consider their position'....

Although BT, Britain's biggest ISP, doesn't fall under the scope of the verdict, it*also received a request to block the Pirate Bay following the court order. BT states it needs time to consider their*position on blocking The Pirate Bay.*

Re: The Pirate Bay is blocked (Discuss but do not post detail of how to get round it)
ISPs are stuck between a rock and a hard place IMO.
Looking wider than the pointless ban on one tracker index site which a couple of minutes on google will show ways around, if there are eventually ways devised to block P2P activities then the reason half their customers bother with anything beyond the bare minimum package pretty much evaporate.

File-sharing website The Pirate Bay (TPB) has been hit by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.
The site has been largely inaccessible for the last 24 hours, and the service is intermittent in the UK.
The Pirate Bay has confirmed the attack on its Facebook page, saying that it did not know who was behind it, although it "had its suspicions".

Interesting way to deal with a DDoS - null route your entire ISP...

Re: The Pirate Bay is blocked (Discuss but do not post detail of how to get round it)
Another thing I don't understand about this whole situation is with regards to sharing music.
Let's say for instance I use piratebay to download and listen to Linkin Park's "In the end", which happens to be a song I like.
If I share that, through bittorrent, I'm apparently committing a crime, right? I'm violating someone's copyright, could face a heavy fine and someone loses money as a result (blah blah)
But, that same song is available, for free, on youtube, via Warner bros' official youtube channel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yw1Tgj9-VU&feature=plcp
It's had, 39,580,982 views.
By watching that video/song, it's downloaded to my PC in a temporary area, thus, I now have a copy for playback whenever I want to, so Warner bros has lost a sale.So I have to wonder, what the hell is the point of going after people for "sharing" songs which are already shared on places like youtube?

That song has adverts. As such, Warner are getting money each time you play it. They get nothing from torrents.

Hmm, I've never seen an advert on youtube, I wonder if adblock prevents ads loading in the videos? heh
