From the BBC article -
" "The patient had underlying health conditions."
The statement added that, at the family's request, no further details will be released. "

Underlying health problems could mean anything though from heart disease to blooming IBS
A perspective though

About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu.

thats a lot from complications of normal seasonal flu

I think they wouldn't have mentioned it if it were unrelated to the death..

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
Still not seeing a reason to panic although i am sure that the media will hype up our first confirmed death from this. Right now i think the biggest risk to the public in the UK is not the virus though we should all be vigilant it is the media and the way they are happy to hype something to sell papers\ratings.

Britain's first person to die while suffering from swine flu was a new mother who had given birth prematurely, it has emerged.

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
I think I may have caught it. Since Monday afternoon, I've had Flu-like symptoms but without the sniffles, my head and neck and chest are killing me and if I take a deep breath or lie down, the pain gets worse! I have an appointment at the doc's in the morning... If I can make it!

From the NHS website
"If you have flu-like symptoms and are concerned because you think you have been in contact with someone who may have swine flu:
Stay at home.
Check your symptoms if possible (links to external site)
Call the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 to hear the latest advice
If you are still concerned, call your GP or NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
Do not go into your GP surgery, or to a hospital, as you may spread the disease to others. Ask your flu friend to go out for you."

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
If the official advice is to stay at home etc.., why aren't GP's surgeries dispensing that same advice to people ringing in for appointments?
