As you say Mid summers day and NTL said Late summer so it will not be before midsummers day then.
With NTL it will come when or if it does you should all know that by now.

June 21st is called Midsummer day in Great Britain and it is also the first day of summer. The two don't seem to equate. In most of Europe Midsummer day is 24th June, the church quarter day celebrating the feast of St John the Baptist.

Yes - but that is just a name, it isn't the middle of summer.

This is a good site for explaining seasons with appropriate dates.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
You lot remind me of my kids when they were small and couldn't wait for Easter,Christmas, school holidays and the end of any car journey.
Just go and do something else for a while to get your mind off this issue and before you know it...you will still be waiting.
Try to chill out and enjoy the great weather that has been our summer thus far and before long it will be September.THEN if there has been no upgrade complain bitterly.
We are dealing with NTL here so you should be used to the waiting game by now
Incog.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
I rang up today to downgrade and noticed 2 things.
1 - NTL advertising during the wait was advertising 150kbit as HIGH speed broadband.
2 - For the first time when I am downgrading I was asked why I was downgrading, which is funny because I was hoping they would ask, so I told them my view that I wasn't happy with the price rise for only 1 tier and as I dont desperatly need the top tier the downgrade was half protest and half cost saving as I was also stretching myself at 34.99, she then went on to say I would only be getting half the speed etc. (again first time they said this) so I just replied well I may upgrade again in the future if I decide to, this ended it and she proceeded with the downgraded.
After the call I do feel a bit gutted I have downgraded but end of the day I am saving 13 a month and I rarely upload if things change at NTL with their polocies concerning the tier's I may reupgrade sometime in the future but until then who knows.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
If people were more honest to NTL and just say that they were ****ed off with paying more for the same service with an upgrade maybe at somepoint in the future, maybe midsummer or late summer or perhaps before christamas or even easter or maybe never.............They would get the message.
If we tell them that it is due to the fact that it is a protest but i never really needed it anyway as I never download or upload that much.............Then surley NTL will think that we do NOT want faster speeds and we get stuck with the crap slow speeds we have now!!!!
If you downgrade tell them straight!!!! You do NOT like the price hike and the SLIGHT possibility of a speed hike in the far future. Also metion that ADSL is now twice as fast as their 1MB service in some areas and only £2 more for a totally UNCAPPED line.
Maybe then they will sit up and take notice!!

Only getting half the speed? what was she talking about?
Mind you, when do you get your full speed anyway?
I went from 1mb to 600k, havent noticed a vast difference.
Apart from my bank balance each month, more money to spend on cd's.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
from justanothernoob quote new cm files not been distributed yet.
So I am guessing they are done but we just need NTL to distribute them over the network so modem's can login with the new speeds
come on NTL

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
You missed out on a great offer my friend - i rang up a while back and said this:
I wish to Cancel Cable modem ive had for 4 Years with the said one months notice. Now they proceeded as if they were gonna cut me off, then as if by magic, we can offer you half price for 3 months - just so happens this is a deal if your a new customer by the way.
Now i pay Less than you for 3 months and im still Getting 1 mbit / 256 as before.
After the 3 months (which i suspect will be the time the speeds will increase) then i will call Yet again and cancel - they either offer me another deal (which i doubt) or i go across to the dark side...

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds
I used ADSL for a year, and personally could never imagine going back.
CM is so much better.
More consistent speed,
"true" always on,
none of this "you're too far to get the higher speed" (I can't get 1mb ADSL where I am), or "you're outside London/Birmingham/Manchester so you can't get 1mb at the lowest price" malarchy.
None of this hunting for the best price ISP (1 ISP that has a low price, but also a low bandwith quota, another with a high price, but higher bandwith quota), I like the one choice. 1mb, 55mb webspace, 10mb mailbox does me perfectly at £37.99.
People like choice, personally, choice just makes things complicated.
