300K Samsung STB (Now 1MB), Norwich Area,
After Phoning CS yesterday and being told it would be done today, I expected to come home to a speedy connection :-) , but alas, no.
Phoned them up and quickly, yes, quickly got throuh to CS, and got it sorted almost straight away!!

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 4)
Hi,
I am in Bromley & have Pace STB, I was on the 750 now on 1 MB, with a new STB coming 12/4 so I can have 2mb. It did not go quite smoothly tho, as I rang CS yesterday & the nice young lady done the upgrade and said you will need to reboot, however after rebooting, no Internet connection at all and when I rang back, they had shut shop for the day, so could not get online at all last night. Rang them at 8am on the dot this morning, they checked and said "oh yes there was an error, but it should be ok now, reboot again and it should be alright".
After a few reboots, yes it came back, yippee.

Re: New Speed Upgrades 8th March. (Part 4)
I've phoned customer services several times today eventually I've been told that I can't have an upgrade from 1.5 to 3 MB until at least April 4th and there's nothing they can do. This is through Samsung STB btw.
The temptation to cancel is rising within me again.
I am in Manchester (Didsbury/Withington)

But why?
The upgrades were due to take place FROM March 8th.
Not everyone can be done at once, the logistics of that should be obvious.
If you want to cancel, then cancel. Make sure you ask your replacement ISP to upgrade your speed at no extra cost though.....and make sure if they do, they do everyone on the network at the exact same moment.
Ironically, if you cancel, you need to give 30 days notice, by which time you'll have the new speed anyway......

Actually I have personal reasons for this which I don't want to discuss in a public forum. Whilst trying to convey my frustration, I may not have given out all the details, so apologies for that. What I would also really actually like are the answers to 2 questions.
1. If I was a brand new customer, connecting today at the same property, I would probably have been sold the 3Mb service. Would I get the 1.5Mb instead?
2. I want to know if anyone else in my local area has been upgraded if they are a STB broadband customer.
That's why I posted.
PS. One of the agents I spoke to informed me that the reason he couldn't do the upgrade was because of an IT error in the billing system. There was no mention of this area being a problem.

You can phone customer services and they will upgrade you. Note there are different restrictions on the service as listed in this thread.

I'd do it for you, except I don't know 100% that there aren't any issues that would stop it from working. They seem very keen on telling set top box customers that it's got to be done automatically, and I am concerned there may be a very valid reason for this....

The STB fiasco is due to lack of pre-planning on NTLââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s part. They could have contacted Pace box customers, well before the upgrade, explaining the situation and that if they wanted to go to 2Meg theyââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢d have to change their box. Now if their was a lack of boxes, which is not the customers fault, then they should have told customers that theyââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢d upgrade them to 1Meg and charge them the 1Meg price until they were given a Samsung box. It strikes me that itââ‚ ¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢s quite unjust of NTL to expect people to pay the same as someone in the same street, on 2Meg, just because they were unfortunate to have a Pace box. I did suggest this to NTL but it just fell on deaf ears.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
Hmm, well that didn't go well. I called them up to get the upgrade. The lady immediately cancelled my current one, and then I worriedly mentioned that I had a pace box, and she said I would have to be without net access for a month as she couldn't put my old access back on because they have got rid of the old product codes.
Well in the end she managed to get me back on the new 1Mbit service rather than the 2Mbit service (I guess she just downgraded my service so i'm now paying for the cheaper one). Does anyone know what this will actually mean for my cap limits? I am going to get through the 3gb/m limit vvv quickly and it is not my choice to be on this low package so it seems a little harsh if they block my access or something? Anyone know if NTL are actually doing any enforcing of the cap yet?

This was never practical because of the uncertain timescales over the upgrades.
It's not just a matter of pressing a switch and the entire network is upgraded you know.
It has been done right and it's been done responsibly and professionally.
Nobody ever said all the upgrades would be done on March 8th. That's when they STARTED.
I'll tell you what, all those who insist this has been handled badly, why not make a stand and insist that on principle you are refusing the FREE speed upgrade as you don't want something that's been planned as badly as this?
Any takers? Naah, THORT NOT!

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I guess you have until 'later in the year' to get your problem sorted, thats when the 1mb will be capped, so unless the stb malarkey drags on for some time, you should be ok.

Re: *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please (Part 4)
I can't understand all these people being told they won't get a Samsung STB until next month,I was on the phone to NTL for less than 5 minutes and I'm getting my Samsung STB on Tuesday.
Is it to do with what part of the country you live in?
