But why is it later than TW Bill?

If certain ntl employees are right, & it was TW that copied ntl's idea of increasing speeds, then how on earth did TW manage to get it done 2 weeks ahead of schedule?

I Agree totally, If ntl would have just stayed quiet and waited until they were ready to upgrade (which TW obviously done) they wouldnt have any complaints from anyone wondering when "late summer" was, :P

I dont work on that side so i cannot say.The likes of bbking and noob would have a better idea however there is the fact of a much larger network and more than 1 type of system that has to be changed on the NTL side where Telewest only have the one.

So ntl planned for a speed increase, Telewest found out about it & copied them, yet managed to get it done 2 weeks early, yet ntl customers are still waiting?

Whichever way you look at it, ntl have made a mess of it.

Either way-TW customers have their speed increase, & ntl's is 'coming soon'

Pass the crack pipe, Steve. Both original and ex cwc areas have had digital TV since the late 90s.

Neil - where was it said ntl were planning speed upgrades before TW and copied it? I'm quite willing to applaud TW for being in the vanguard of high speed internet access in the UK, and am not surprised they got things done first, having a smaller network. Given the amount of work I *know* needs to be done and which you, I contend, don't, announcing a fairly vague period rather than an exact date is perfectly reasonable, particularly as it's likely to be a staged rollout.

In a perfect world I could do it with a snap of my fingers, but this isn't a perfect world. The other alternatives are not to announce anything (as tried in London) for which we get slated, to announce unreasonable timescales (for which we get slated, and rightly). Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Or are you just cheesed off that you ditched ntl shortly before they increased broadband speeds? When are BT upgrading my 512k ADSL line to 750k for no extra fee? Am I thinking of getting a nice TW CM? You betcha.

Was said by justanothernoob in either this or a related post, btw did not know both had digi at same time thought manchester was first and rest of cwc.

Glad you agree with this free dial up original areas had it but ex cwc did not.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds

hmm excuses.

TW have a smaller network but lets get things into proportion here. Announcement made, 2 weeks later TW upgraded = 14 days, for sake of argument lets say summer from 21 june to sometime in sept, middle date 1 August = 90 days. So ntl's network is over 5x as big as TW?
Am I talking rubbish? yes

Is this rubbish also?
DHCP upgrades (for speed upgrade?)
Training (5 mins in staff meeting)
Thousands of config files (done in bulk)
Education (for what exactly?)
Billing (so it says 1.5 instead of 1meg service and even if this was wrong it doesnt matter as its free upgrade and what you charged counts, either way its probably just 1 change in a database)
Capacity Calculations (this should have been done before announcement)
Checking if modems work (yes mine works not sure what you meant by this)
Updating UBR's (its just a config file )

I'm not willing to name names m8, as it will embarass those that told me, but rest assured I have it in writing from ntl associates that it was ntl's idea.

I don't think it's anything to do with the size of the network, if what your colleagues say is true, & TW copied ntl, then they are even more efficient than I thought they were-if they can do a speed upgrade on a kneww jerk reaction, why can't ntl do one that they planned 1st?

Telewest managed it-no 'coming soon'/'late summer' from them.

I will never be cheesed of that I ditched ntl as an ISP.
Do you think just because they will (eventually!) offer a speed increase, that it makes up for all the other cr@p they offer? (how long have ntl had email problems?

'Soon'!

You're lucky, you have the choice of a decent cable ISP. There are many people in London that don't.

So-I have a simple question for ntl.....

Why are ntl customers being told 'late summer' for their speed increase, when Telewest customers already have it, & indeed got it 2 weeks ahead of schedule?

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds

Ah well - still no speed increase... cant. Maybe they meant late summer when they've taken the extra £3 off all of us for the 3 months or so.

Grrrr...

The £3 rise should av come into effect when the increase went to 1.5mb not before - thats one reason ive gone back to 600k, as i believe have loads of others. Only NTL losing out it looks like - bunch of biffs.

You can't expect to get something that you have been told will be coming late summer when summer hasn't even arrived yet and won't arrive for another 11 days.

The £3 rise is nothing to do with the speed increase and only NTL know why they have made that price increase, others can only guess.
