DF how many planned apps are in the pipeline for next year apart from the BBC/Virgin joint ones as it would be nice to have a bigger selection.

I would say the sky sports red button will be a app ( sky sports red button app will come the end of Q1 next year )
I would say all red button services will be apps.
Just like red button on channel 529 takes you to a app.

Yes we know about that one but it would be nice to know what else they have planned for next year on the app front.

- Make World Service an internet only broadcaster and do away with the cost of running and maintaining their transmission facilities and satellite leases. You would make a fortune selling off the vast transmitter sites. You could feed a third world country with the crops grown on the land if it were converted to agriculture.

So, you're agreeing that the BBC should be "more autonomous and more business-like" but suggesting that it should have limitless, self-determined public funding with no supervisory body controlling the funding or overseeing how it is spent. Er, no thanks! Anyway, those are contradictory stances. Running an operation on the basis of limitless, self-determined public funding is not being "more autonomous and more business-like".

I think It would be a bad idea to have adverts on the world service, but making the World service Internet only is not a bad idea, trouble is that a lot of nations have bad or no internet connections
Also The BBC need to control its lisence fee so that it has less interference from the government, how the BBC runs should not be on the basis on who runs the government!

Yes it would be of no surprise to see a film streaming sometime next year but take up will as always depend on the price.

Why on earth is the BBC spending that much when it can afford to send presenters to Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine

Virgin Media signs BBC sports coverage deal
Virgin Media has struck a deal with the BBC to give viewers access to hundreds of hours of extra coverage of major sports events next year, including live video streams from the London 2012 Olympics, through its TiVo service.
The wide-ranging deal will give Virgin Media customers access to "enhanced" BBC TV services – the additional video streams and interactive content accessed via the red button – for a range of the corporation's news and sports coverage next year.
Significantly, Virgin Media customers will now have access to all 24 streams of coverage that the BBC is broadcasting of various Olympic events.
However, the deal also covers the "red button" content of events including Formula One, Wimbledon and Euro 2012.

l would expect Al Jazeera sooner rather then later to come onto Virgin's platform as they are also planning to bid for the Premiership football rights.
