Re: Football Season 2012/2013
Good result. De Gea was excellent yet again, and i thought we did very well at keeping Ronaldo quiet in the second half. Looking forward to the second leg.

I thought United would win and had a 9/1 bet on a United win with a Van Persie goal. Grrrrr....so close....

Yes if only Van Persie had his shooting boots on last night but there's always next week against the mighty Bayern if you think its a risk worth taking.

I don't normally bet against Arsenal and betting on them is just throwing money away.

Re: Football Season 2012/2013
I watched the highlights of last nights match again...is there a bigger **** in football than Sergio Ramos? He got two of our players booked for absoloutely nothing. Rolling around on the floor as if he had been shot, it was patheitic. Also the De Gea save early on is probably one of the best i've ever seen, i don't know how he managed to see the ball.
I'm waiting to hear today whether i got tickets in the ballot for the second leg. Fingers crossed

How does that work then? At Arsenal there are membership levels. Gold means season ticket which means every home game and the first 7 cup games (excluding Carling Cup) then for other home games you get a few weeks to 'buy' your seat for it before they'll offering to the next level down which is Silver.
Silver means you can book any games, other than seats already taken by season tickets, on a first-come, first-served basis two months before the game in question. This gives them a one month head start on Red members who can book 1 month in advance.
So no ballots required apart from cup finals. Instead it's a tiered membership scheme (anyone can be red, Silver is limited and the longest serving red members get promoted when one of the Silver members doesn't renew).

The United one is a lot more simple. If you are a member you apply for tickets, if the game is over subscribed a ballot is held and its completely random. It could be the first game you apply for and you have the same chance as everyone else. Its only the big games that you have to apply though, against lesser teams you can choose your seats. There are executives and season ticket holders who obviously have their seats already.
I think most of the time you have to be an exec to stand a chance of getting an away ticket. Normal members can't even apply for aways. I would love to go to an away game but the only chance i would have is buying from a tout or going to a european away in the early stages, which i nearly did this season against Cluj but decided against it. The only away i have been to was against City in the community shield, if that can be classed as an away.

Yeah away games are hard. I went to one, at Old Trafford incidentally, because it was an FA Cup game so our allocation was higher. Great fun. Arsenal have an away scheme which is closed for new members as they're trying to phase it out in favour of the Gold/Silver/Red scheme.
So do you not get to choose the seat for the big games? You could end up in the top corner of the stadium or right on the halfway line in the upper tier?

You choose 2 price bands, so i tend to choose the price bands where i know the most non season ticket seats are and you're put anywhere in those price bands if you're successful.
Back in the day of postal applications i just use to write 'any' where it asked you where you wanted to sit, which was pretty cool because i've sat in every stand and tier in the ground now.
