Just to point out that 70 and 150 are only for existing broadband customers. If you're a new customer then its currently 50, 100 and 200.

150mb is very enticing now, seems a bit of an oversight.

People said the same when it was 50-100-120, before they realised 120 was just an interim measure while the network was being prepped for 150.

On the other hand, BT don't artificially limit your upload below 20Mbps, and furthermore, you can bond multiple lines and get multiple times that speed.

I'm on a SH1 and I've hit 160Mb+ on my 152Mb connection.

So will the SH1 work with 200Mb or will I need a new SH, if so will I have to contact them, or will they contact me?

I believe for 200Mbit you'll need a swap out from the SH1. It's part of the order process when you go through My Virgin Media.

Is it just a simple case of switching a SH1 for a SH2? Surely it would be easier and quicker to just send the new router in the post and let us switch them over.

For most customers a postal delivery should indeed be the case when the upgrade is ordered. Only if another issue is identified would an engineer be required.

Of course they can, including to increase profits. Not saying that's what the increases are for but when the answer is as vague as the increase could be for any number of reasons it only leaves guesswork.

Could really use that 10mb upload speed so I called up to ask but the chap on the phone said his system wouldn't let him. Did manage to reduce the bill though so it's not all bad.

What sort of issues would come up?

It won't let me get a new Superhub through My Virgin Media without an engineer callout.

I've had problems in the past with getting Virgin Media to do speed upgrades without a callout before.

One time I asked a supervisor and got them to back down. They just did it over the phone.

Another time they insisted on sending an engineer out, only for him to be extremely irritated by the fact that they had done so. He said that there was nothing he needed to do and he just arranged for the upgrade to happen on his PDA/phone.

Back in the Telewest days we had 512kbps->1mbps->2mbps->4mbps->10mbps->20mbps all without a callout.

Virgin Media let me install the Superhub myself.

I think it's factors that could impact the new service as there are some background checks run. However I'm going to be honest here is saying I'm not 100% on what they are.
