Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3
None of the current pay TV STB's are capable.
The new DVB-UHDTV Phase 1 will allow over the air transmission of 3840x2160 resolution at 60Hz with impproved colour depth , the standard uses HEVC compression.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3
Further to the rumour I posted here last week that Murdoch might take over Time Warner, the folks at TW have decided they don't fancy it:

Hmmm, that's been tried before (AOL, at the time a huge internet company, bought TW back in 2000) and that is widely regarded as an absolute disaster.
The only TW channels broadcasting in the UK are CNN, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and TCM. There's no reason to believe that their future carriage on VM would be under any kind of threat even if Fox were to successfully buy TW.
|
I wouldn't say little substance , however they're current offers been rebuffed.

One suspects old Rupert will probably come back with a bigger offer despite being rebuffed this time..

Sky lost the right to the preferential 601 EPG slot when their sulking led to Sky News being removed from it and replaced by BBC News.

Has the additional Sky HD charge gone up from £7 to £7.50?

If Ofcom decide to make a speaking EPG mandatory, VM may well have to roll out new boxes anyway:

It's just been discussed on Radio 4 too. It was said that Murdoch is likely to try again and is likely to be prepared to sell off CNN to satisfy the regulatory authorities.

There has been speculation in the industry that Sky 3D will be closing after efforts to increase viewers by unlocking it for more customers failed.
This has been compounded by the fact that, on most days, it has now been reduced to a part time channel.
From what I was told a couple of weeks ago, I think we can now safely rule out this channel as ever coming to VM.

DaMac,
the Big Kahuna is £45.00 + £15.99 LR.
Sky Sports Season Ticket = £150.00 one off for 10 months (effectively £15.00 per month).
If you take the above then Sky Movies will be £7.00 extra as will the HD pack.
Monthly total = £74.99 (plus the £150 upfront).
Obviously the Big Kahuna only includes one STB so if you have additional STBs they will also be extra.
Normally it would be £100.99 (£85 + £15.99 LR).
Hope that helps

Possibly, but I think it really is a case that TW just don't want to merge with Murdoch. And don't forget one of the rival media moguls, Ted Turner, who merged his Turner empire into TW, is probably not keen on it either.

He hates CNN, so he might even shut it down if he got his hands on it.
Other companies were talking to TW including Comcast and Google, so we may yet still see a deal done. There will almost certainly be more consolidation to come in the media/telecoms/cable cos business in the States.

TalkTalk and BT are miles behind Virgin and SKY for HD channels.

So with sky sports 5 coming next month but the other hd sky channels not coming till next year apparently does that mean there is probably nothing else to launch this year?

Vince! ffs man, what other load of utter tosh do you want on your telly? Ok most of us would like Atlantic, but that ain't happening, can't see for the life of me why people want extra channels, as the song goes, 57 channels and nothing on, well that was in 1992, so maybe Bruce should update that song to 157 channels and nothing on.........
