3 match ban if he is lucky. The more you look at that the worst it gets! He looks down and then deliberately goes for the stamp. That's it extreamly dangerous play, he drew blood and a gash on Van Persie's face! He is lucky he did not do more damage.

I believe there have been longer bans when it's more than a professional foul and a deliberate attempt to cause harm to a player.

A lengthy ban is what's needed. Hopefully they don't just fine him, fining prem footballers doesn't do anything.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

The Adebayor incident really spoiled what was an fantastic game played at a good tempo with some real quality thrown in for good measure.
One thing i would like to say though is does the fact that Ade runs the full lengh of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal fans, give said fans the right to start hurling objects onto the pitch and causing mayhem?

The guy did incite it and should indeed be banned, plus a ban for the van Persie incident, say 5 games.
Hopefully Santa-Cruz will be fit and raring to go by then....

He may well be a Man-City `Problem` but it`s not a bad problem to have a player who has scored 4 in 4 now is it? Plus to have a ready made replacement if he starts behaving in a manner Mark Hughes doesn`t like(remember he was no shrinking violet)
All in all the actual football in this weekends premiership was absolutely top draw, from the Defoe overhead kick to Rooney playing up front on his own and causing just as much hassle as when he had Berbatov with him. Also Liverpool played some lovely stuff and Chelsea were, well Chelsea.
From these first 5 or 6 matches my conclusion is that United are not the same team without Ronaldo, Liverpool have plateaued, Chelsea look to have the best overall squad and chance of the title, Manchester City (the crappy little club!) are the real deal and Arsenal still have a soft underbelly.
The rest will be the usual suspects....

p.s. I thought City`s player of the match was a toss up between De Jong and Bellamy, even if we lose to Utd next week this has been an excellant start to such a newly formed squad.

I think that Hughes could be the manager to knock some sense into adebayor.. He is a fantastic player but does need a short sharp shock!!!

Absolutely not. The people who did that are being investigated by the police and hopefully they will be found out. Then they will be banned from the Emirates and every other stadium.

Quite funny in a way, Has anyone seen Arsenal fans get any louder than the occasional chant? Seeing them riot was very strange.

The problem with Adebayor is not how he acts when he is playing well, although yesterday proved that may not be true. It's when things at the club are tough or he is introduced to any form of criticism. Then, like he did at Arsenal, he gives up trying. Wenger after all is very good at controlling his players but he tends to get rid of the ego players.

Arsenal's last couple of losses are different to last season. Against United we were the better team for large portions of the game, even when we conceded it was against the run of play. I only saw highlights but although we didn't play as well as we did against United it's not as if the City result reflected the game.

Arsenal's problem is an inability to finish the chances we have a occasional mistake that let's us concede against the run of play. I mean we dominated periods of that game but as usual a lack of concentration and failure to convert chances cost us. Clubs like United and City have the quality to take advantage of that.

I have to admit to being wrong about City, I think next week will be a bigger task. Arsenal have the ability to snatch defeat from the claws of Victory. United have the ability to do the opposite.

So I think we still a bigger danger. So far I think the table will be:

  1. Chelsea
  2. Arsenal
  3. United
  4. City

Again, He is a ego player. If Hughes doesn't handle him right he will become the toxin in the dressing room he was for us. It's not about discipline, Wenger has the ability to do that. It's about managing his ego otherwise he will lose it again.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

Fair points, the thing i think Arsene Wenger needs to address and it is something most title winning teams seem to have, is the ability to play with a midfield that doesn`t wan`t to bomb forward at every opportunity to try and score.
Someone who is prepared to just sit in front of the back four, break up the attacking team`s momentum and play the easy ball. Viera used to excel at this(allthough he did attack when he could) as did Makelele at Chelsea, Gattuso at AC Milan, now maybe Fletcher at Utd.
Hopefully De Jong will be that player for City but only time will tell, i did like the analysis of his game by Match of the Day, it`s only when they show you stuff like that then you appreciate the benefit to the team.
Also the way Drogba defended as well as attacked was good to see.

Probably the best game of the season, and not just because we won, it could have gone either way, looking forward to the return leg

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

The trouble is we need referees that are much stronger, who can control big games such as Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal, you only have to look at the Arsenal game where Adebayor ran half way across the pitch to incite the Arsenal fans, this should have been a RED CARD, for the trouble it cuased.

By doing this, it would have shown the referee was in control, and then today Sir Alex has slammed Marriner for the RED CARD on Scholes. We have, to have to stronger referees.

I think it was on MOTD, i may be wrong, but one of the pundits said, when United play well they win, when Chelsea play well they win, when Liverpool play well they win and when Arsenal play well you don't know what they're going to do. I think that sums up Arsenal pretty well compared to the other top teams. It's like when Chelsea and United play badly they manage to sneak a win whereas, as we saw last season, Liverpool could only get draws when they weren't playing at their best. I think a lack of defensive minded midfielders is Arsenal's major problem at the moment and was shown to be the case against City, it's all well and good when playing against a poor Everton side, but when they face a decent side that can counter attack there's problems.

I would say thats fair but we look a lot better than last season. Everyone thought we would drop out of the top 4 and I think we have shown that we are indeed a top 4 team. We do need to address this issue of finishing the chances we have in big games and being alert.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010

Looks like Mr Moron is facing a 3 match ban for Van Persie, 1 for the incitement. However it's emerging that he also stamped on Fabregas' ankle. If proven correct he would not only get the defacto 3 match ban (so far we are at 7 games banned) but an extended one for having being charged for the same violent offensive twice.

Didn't Gary Neville get more than a one match ban for his celebration in front of Liverpool fans?..... and that was nowhere near as bad as Adebayor.

Just checked, apparently Neville got fined but not banned.

One thing we forget to mention with all of Mr Moron's antics is the excellent job the stewards at Man City did to stop the incident being much, much worse. Credit to them.

Although there is a part of me that would have liked to see how fast he could run with the away fans chasing him.

God dam Man City: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...er/8255536.stm

First of all it was a away game, he was surrounded by City fans. It's hardly the same if you score and there are opposition fans all around you. No Cameras seem to have picked up the swearing or indeed any excessive celebration aimed at city.
