I really hate blood tests! That’s the single good thing about dialysis you can take blood straight out of the machine!

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
This morning I got a phone call and I'm going into hospital tomorrow afternoon for my Endoscopy this was a cancellation and because of the short notice I've been given instructions over the phone. They said since I'm down as urgent it does not matter that I have not stopped taking my Omeprazole just don't take them today or tomorrow, nor does it matter that I have not had a pre assessment.
I'm pleased and shocked at the short notice tbh.
At least this way it's all done and dusted in time for Christmas and New Year, every cloud has a silver lining

Yes dilli you will have to give my some clues for decorating my wheelchair as its a newer one as the old one did a good job but was a bit battered going here , there and everywhere.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Today I have never experienced a more unpleasant procedure and to matters worse they could not carry it out due to my reaction and fear. My discharge form states sedation has no affect on patient
I felt the nurses were great but the guy doing it had no bed side manner at all thus making me worse, I felt he was extremely obnoxious and in general did not consider me the patient at all, in fact he only made it worse. I did ask if they could try again and give me more sedation in where he quickly replied NO.
This is my first bad experience and hope it's my last.

That's terrible weenie.
There is no excuse for such an unfeeling approach, I would ask that you have someone else do the procedure next time and explain why. Do not let it slide, also ask if a different sedation could be used with maybe some form of pre-med that would help you relax before you even attended the hospital on the day of the your second visit.
Try to enjoy Christmas and put this horrible experience to one side. <<hugs>>

Sorry to hear that. From what I know is that it varies from hospital to hospital and if they have recovery beds or not for that type of procedure as to when it comes to sedation. I know my hospital only gives you about 2 -5mg of Diazepam which will not sedate you enough so they don't need recovery rooms so most tend to go for the horrible spray.
If it weren't for the prep I'd take a colonoscopy over an gastroscopy every time but everyone is different. If you have a colonoscopy due any time soon you could ask for it to be done at the same time as then you'd be given the proper type of sedation which is what I had done for my first one. Or see your GP and ask for Diazepam yourself and take 10-15mg 20-30mins before you in.
I'm quite a nervous patient myself and I hate it when they don't take this into account. I remember once having a meeting with a surgeon about an op and I asked a simple question and he couldn't be bothered to answer it other than saying 'I wouldn't know till I have your bowels on the table next you to will I'. I didn't take the op after that.

My thoughts are with you weenie as l certainly cannot complain about any of the staff when l had the same procedure as my problems started when the gave me IV antibiotics and thus straight away l was sick several times and when they did do the procedure it was a very uncomfortable experience and not one l wish to repeat.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Thanks Jo, peanut and den.
Needless to say that I'm still very upset over this matter and I have been in touch with the Patient Affairs Manager at this hospital.
I explained that I was told I wouldn't remember anything about it but I remember the whole horrid experience.
I told her that in my opinion the full thing was a complete farce due to many factors with the first one being - in the procedure room it became apparent that I had not even signed a consent form and once this was noted I was expected to sign without even reading it as I never had my specs on, when I drew their attention to the fact that I could not read what I was signing they just said a consent form for sedation, the patients affair manager did say that this should not have happened the consent form should have been signed before entering the procedure room.
I did say that imo I should have either been offered more sedation or giving some time to calm myself down therefore being more relaxed and for them to try again.
The way I'm feeling at the moment hell will freeze over before I go for that procedure again, although hubby wants me to go again. I have made a appointment with my GP in January to discuss peanuts and Jo's advice about getting some pre-med and if not I'm afraid I will not be back for upper GI scope ever again.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Get out of my local Sainburys car park was a joke, it took over 30 mins, because the one roundabout to access it has a road that goes to my town stations and 4 lanes try to go to it and to top it off theres 2 sets off traffic lights one just off the exit, the other half way down.

We went in the supermarket early yesterday as l was in my wheelchair connected to the supermarket trolley and every isle we came to there must have been 3 or 4 delivery pickers and then on top of that there were stacks and stacks of Roll Containers with all the stock on it to go out on the shelves.
It was frankly unacceptable even for a normal able bodied person to try to navigate themselves around the aisles with everything in the way so you could imagine what it was like for us.
