yeah I think Incog might have been right when she suggested it was a deliberate rather than co-incidence this happens on 6/6/6.

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
The transparent proxies are a REAL pain! If they weren't in place, then anyone who has the sense to change to a decent provider's DNS servers would have been able to avoid the browsing problem! ... grr

Thanks DocDutch, though as it turns out I did actually read the page before referring to it. My point is that I, and it seems you also, have had cause to read it pretty much every day for a month!

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
Guys,
I am listening (now that would be scary) to your comments; reading your comments and some of you sort of have a clue about DNS and some of you are just plain silly. Sorry I have to say this but, some of your comments are way off track.
Look if you do not understand anything about DNS Servers then just don't bother making a comment. It's clear there is a DNS problem and it does not matter how many people post replys, it ill not change the fact this is a major outage which is being looked into as we speak. Beleive me I would not want to be the engineer working on this one.
It will be resolved.
END...

they would be on watchdog, the way our regulators work a poor internet service is ok. But billing problems (bulldog) get shoved onto watchdog and ofcom and if it was phone or tv playing up on a weekly basis it probably would get more attention.

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
To add I think the reason why ntl.com and this site remained working is they are either cached on all the proxies and no lookup is occuring or they have a dns hard value set to avoid lookups meaning they not affected by dns outages.
Common sense would also dictate that ntl added new dns servers for redundancy and had them on different servers and networks so a ddos attack on the main 2 servers wouldnt affect the slave dns servers as such allowing them to keep their service live. They may also want to invest in some Juniper hardware

I used to a long time ago... I was a Senior Cable Modem Tec. This was when NTL was good and yes there were outages and some worse than this. I cannot remember which one but it was not yours, so don't worry. It's just that we all know there is an outage and you are limited to what sites you can browse to.

Re: Major connection issues! 6/6/06
Im on 2MB Broadband, resident in Loftus, N.Yorks.
I have the same browsing problems as everyone else is reporting and my first port of call when the trouble started was to the ntl.discussion.broadband.cm NG. Or, rather, it would have been but the servers have been down all day. Is anyone else having problems with the news servers?

If my memory service me correctly it's run on a server based at their Matrix Court in Swansea... They might have moved it know but, I am 100% sure it was.
