The interesting bit is here as well.

I current use a VMNG300 will I need to switch to using a Super Hub?
We've tested the VMNG300 and it can only support a speed of approximately 92Mb on our network so if you want to get your full speed upgrade you'll need a Super Hub which we'll send to you free of charge. We know that some of you might be concerned about the Super Hub's performance but the last firmware upgrade at the end of 2011 made some significant improvements in performance and reliability alongside introducing modem mode. We're also expecting even further improvements with the next firmware which should be released in the first half of 2012.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

that is the biggest load of poo i have ever heard. In order to get that result do you think they tested it as rigourously as they did the shub before it was released?

I think it is something they made up because they want everyone on the shub. If they honestly believe the vmng300 cant do more than 92mbits (less than half it's rated throughout) then I would be asking some serious questions.

I think that has now got to be my new favourite pile of poo quote from VM, it even beats the "unbeatable wireless performance" one.

From how I read it, most people won't. I would expect that you'll only need an engineer install if it's identified that your signal levels are wrong etc.

Even if you do I wouldn't expect it to be a chargeable visit

I expect it will have something to do with the VMNG300 inability to use more than 4 downstreams and I expect in 18 months time that will have been rolled out making the VMNG300 struggle on the network.

It may have been tested at higher speeds but probably only with 4 downstreams, we are not senior management so those decisions will have been made at a high level.

As with the 30Mb rollout the majority just got sent the Superhub.

I am sure a consolidation of tiers will happen and 20mb will be the base tier.

100Mbit customers go to 120Mbit and will also be getting a price reduction
Or, offered a deal to go higher still...

In effect merging the two tiers together.

I only ask because there was talk of the 100meg dropping to the same price as the 50meg when the 50meg went to 100meg, but if 100 is going to 120 and getting a price decrease as well, then I'm just wondering what the costs will be. 100 to 120 isn't a big leap really.
100 is the platinum tier. VM are just nudging it to 120mb to stop a few complaints to the call centres from the highest paying customers wondering why their speed isn't being doubled too. Of course there will eventually be a higher speed and when 200mb and higher is released, those wealthy young rednecks on 120mb will want to upgrade to the fastest and pay the premium price for it. Lucky gits. I remember when I used to have money to burn!

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed

Given no roll out dates for the speed doubling have generally been announced I suppose those who are already paying for the top 100Mbit tier could potentially find themselves paying more than those who were just paying for 50Mbit but were then doubled to 100Mbit at no extra cost. That is unless, on the date that the first 50Mbit user is doubled to 100Mbit, all existing 100Mbit tier subscribers have the price they pay reduced to the same as those on the "50Mbit doubled to 100Mbit tariff" until they are upgraded to 120Mbit (which could be optional because some might want to remain on 100Mbit). BenMcr mentioned some price reductions might occur for eventual 120Mbit users, however I wouldn't think it fair if existing 100Mbit users were paying a premium for 100Mbit while those that were doubled to it, from 50Mbit, were paying less.

I suppose, at some point, being a VMNG300 user with 100Mbit, I shall need to ask for a Superhub. Will they accept posting it or will I need an engineer to visit?

I'd heard that there was going to be 200Mb by the Olympics is that still happening?

We’re boosting the speeds our customers already get rather than introduce a new tier. While we’ve successfully tested some of the world’s fastest broadband on our network we’re focusing on giving our existing customers even more value. 120Mb will be the fastest widely available broadband in the UK
