Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
around 36,000 people die each year in the U.S. (far greater population than the UK) as a result of influenza. I don't see that in the news.... nor the fact that 200,000 people a year in the U.S. are hospitalised due to influenza.

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
What is it with this "it has the potential to kill millions" comment that is doing the rounds of course it has the potential along with hundreds if not thousands of other viruses and the like that doesn't mean it is going too or that it is even likely. From reading some posters on here i almost get the feeling they will be disappointed if this doesn't end up killing hundreds of thousands of people how little it takes for some people to lose all sense of perspective and reality. I think this virus has shown a lot more about some people then it has about anything else.

The whole "potential to kill millions" has been completely hyped up, a LOT of viruses have that potential, the Ebola virus for example kills around 90% of the people who catch it. The was and outbreak of an airborn mutation that thankfully was not catchable by humans.
Now we are going more headlines saying that it has been passed from person to person in the UK.
The FLU virus being passed person to person, I JUST can't belive it what will we do.

Preliminary analysis of the swine flu virus suggests it is a fairly mild strain, scientists say.
It is believed that a further mutation would be needed in order for the H1N1 virus to cause the mass deaths that have been estimated by some.

Re: Pandemic (Swine) Flu
I love how people are pushing the conspiracy angle with absolutely no understanding of the science and a couple of links to a blog from someone who equally has no understanding of science. For some reason people think that two different opinions are equally, even if one is factually wrong. Typical conspiracy angle rubbish, one day these people will learn the value of evidence.

For me it's not the threat of being killed by the swine flu, it's being incapacitated for a few days. If the wife and I both got infected who would look after our 4yr? Even worse, I just couldn't bare it if our daughter sufferred for a few days
I've had the normal seasonal flu, and when you have it it does feel like you're going to die, and tbh, you feel you hope you do!!!
The WHO threat level, currently at 5, tells me when the above nightmare will take place, or has a high chance of taking place.
That's what I'm worried about.
